Lionel Messi scored his first goal for his new club, Paris Saint-Germain, in a 2-0 Champions League win over Manchester City. He was in a fantastic rhythm as he netted his maiden goal for PSG with a stunning top right corner strike. 

This goal added to his illustrious success in the Champions League against elite Premier League teams. Messi has been a headache for Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham, having scored 27 goals against them in 35 outings. Out of the 35 games, Messi has been on the winning side on 19 occasions, adding to his supremacy over the elite English sides. 

The goal against the Citizens on Tuesday was his seventh against them in as many matches, making them one of Messi’s top favorite Premier League clubs. Messi is in fifth place for most goals against Premier League’s big six, behind Eden Hazard(29), Cristiano Ronaldo(36), Harry Kane(39), Jamie Vardy(40), and Sergio Aguero (54). This tally is incredible, given that Messi has never featured in the Premier League and has scored all of his goals in the Champions League.

Messi’s first game against a Premier League club came way back in 2006 when Barcelona triumphed with a 2-1 win over Chelsea. His maiden goal came in the 2009 Cl Final against Man Utd. Ever since Messi has had an enormous impact in the Champions League versus Premier League clubs.

Lionel Messi has been the most effective against Arsenal scoring nine times against them in just six meetings. Along with 27 goals to his name, Messi has also assisted in seven of them.
