The Indian cricket team’s recent Champions Trophy victory adds more names to the list of players, who have won several ICC events. The list comprises the four major cricketing events, the ICC ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup, the Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship.
India’s recent CT victory helped them to become the most successful side in the competition’s history. The team rode high on skipper Rohit Sharma‘s 78-run innings and spinner Varun Chakravathy and Kuldeep Yadav‘s bowling to defeat New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium. Sharma was subsequently named the Player of the Match.
In an era marked by the Men in Blues’ dominance, the Indian team has now claimed two major ICC titles within a year. The Indian team had emerged victorious at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, held in the United States and West Indies. Their 2025 triumph adds to the team’s impressive trophy cabinet, which also boasts two Champions Trophy titles, from 2002 and 2013.

Individually, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma went past MS Dhoni for most ICC trophies won by an Indian player. However, they still remain behind Australian legend Ricky Ponting, who has five ICC trophies to his name. Here is the list of players with the most ICC trophies.
Ricky Ponting (Australia) – 5 ICC Trophies
Ex-Australian skipper and batting legend Ricky Ponting still holds the record for most ICC trophies (five) throughout his career. The now 50-year-old Aussie great, won three ICC ODI World Cup titles and two ICC Champions Trophy titles, between 1999 and 2009.

Having captained the Australian national team for a significant number of years, Ricky Ponting is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the sport. Known for his combative abilities, Ponting is also one of the most successful captains of all time, He boasts an impressive record of 220 victories in 324 matches leading the Aussies, with a winning rate of 67.91 percent.
In ICC events, Ricky Ponting enjoyed an equally successful record, winning three out of the five ODI World Cups he led the team to. Under his captaincy, Australia won three successive World Cups, in 1999, 2003 and 2007, and two back-to-back Champions Trophy titles, in 2006 and 2009.
Glenn McGrath(Australia) – 4 ICC Trophies
While Glenn McGrath might not have captained the Australian national team, he was a leading member of the team that won four ICC trophies. Considered as the greatest fast bowler of all time, McGrath also holds the record for most wickets (71) in the World Cup.

Known throughout his career for his line, length and wicket-taking abilities, McGrath headed Australia’s pace attack for 14-long years from 1993 to 2007. In 375 matches, he scalped as impressive 948 wickets, putting him fifth on the list of highest wicket-takers in cricket history. Moreover, in Test Cricket history, no other bowler has taken more wickets than Glenn McGrath at a lower career average.
McGrath was a pivotal contributor to Australia’s three successive ICC ODI World Cup trophy wins in 1999, 2003 and 2007. Prior to his retirement in 2007, Glenn McGrath also helped the Aussies triumph over West Indies in the 2006 Champions Trophy final.
Steve Smith (Australia) – 4 ICC Trophies
Making it the third Australian player among the top five on the list of players with the most ICC trophies is Steven Smith. The 35-year-old most recently announced his retirement from ODIs after having led the Australian national team to the semi-finals of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

A former Aussie captain, Steve Smith’s career has been through several ups and downs. He was criticized for his involvement in a ball tampering incident against South Africa back in 2018. Despite a year-long ban and the setbacks, Smith still remains one of the finest Test batters of all time. He was even named as the ICC Test Cricketer of the Decade for his performances in the 2010s.

Steve Smith was part of four major ICC trophy wins with his side. He was a part of two ODI World Cup wins, in 2015 and 2023, and a T20 World Cup triumph in 2021. Adding to his list of achievements, he also won the World Test Championship title in 2023, with the Australian team.
Rohit Sharma (India) – 4 ICC Trophies
Only two Indians have won four ICC trophies, with current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma being among them. Widely regarded as one of the greatest openers of all time, Sharma has won eight major titles with the Men in Blues, which includes four Asia Cups.

Rohit Sharma started his national team journey with an ICC T20 World Cup win in 2007, as the Men in Blue led by MS Dhoni lifted the title in South Africa. He was a part of the 2013 Champions Trophy winning side as well, ending as India’s second-highest run-getter. As captain, the 37-year-old has now won two ICC trophies in the last ten months – the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Moreover, he was also a part of the Indian side which has lost five ICC finals over the last decade, which includes the infamous 2023 World Cup final defeat. Sharma has a number of records to his name, and remains India’s fourth highest run-scorer of all time.
Virat Kohli (India) – 4 ICC Trophies
Level on terms with Rohit Shrma, Virat Kohli is fifth on the list of players with the most ICC trophies throughout their career. A former India skipper, Kohli is often termed as the ‘King’, and is the third highest run-getter of all time, behind Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

Virat Kohli has played as astonishing nine ICC finals, winning four of them. His first major victory with the Indian team came in 2011, being a part of the squad which lifted the ICC World Cup after 27 years. He has remained a key member of the team over the years, winning the 2013 and 2025 Champions Trophy, and the 2024 T20 World Cup.
