1992-94: Ian Rush
Ian Rush scored the most goals for the Reds in the first two seasons of the Premier League, as he registered 14 strikes in both campaigns back to back. The Welsh striker became the greatest goalscorer at the club during the following years and ended his career with 346 goals to his name.
1994-97: Robbie Fowler
English striker Robbie Fowler took on the mantle of scoring goals for the Reds from 1994 to 1997. The striker scored 25,28, and 18 goals in 3 consecutive seasons and was named the PFA Young player of the year in the seasons 1995 and 96.
1998-04: Michael Owen
A Reds academy graduate, Michael Owen became a Liverpool legend as he scored many goals for his side from the turn of the new millennium in 2000. He became Liverpool’s leading scorer for seven straight seasons, as no one came close to the English striker in terms of lethalness in front of goal. The striker scored 117 goals for the Reds in the seven seasons in the Premier League.
2003-06: Milan Baros, Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt
Since the departure of Michael Owen in 2004, the great English club has failed to find someone who would singlehandedly score the same number of goals for them. Milan Baros produced the best results in front of goal in 2003/04 when he scored a meager nine goals.
Steven Gerrard became the leading scorer the next year in 2005 when he hit the back of the net just ten times in 38 matches. The number increased to 12, the next year, in 2006, and Dirk Kuyt was the man who scored them for the Reds.
2007-08, 2009,10: Fernando Torres
Things took a great turn for Liverpool in 2007 when they signed Spanish striker Fernando Torres from Atletico Madrid. The striker churned in goals for fun, finished the season with 24 strikes to his name, and proved his mettle in the Premier League. He also finished the highest scorer in 2009, with 18 goals.
2011-14: Luis Suarez
Liverpool signed controversial striker Luis Suarez in 2011 following the departure of their main goal scorer Fernando Torres. The Uruguayan striker enjoyed instant success at Anfield and scored the most goals for them in his first season in the Premier League with just 11 goals. However, his numbers increased astronomically in the following seasons as he scored 23 and then 31 goals in the next two seasons in 2012 and 2013. The 31 goals in a Premier League season was the record for most goals scored ever in a single league season until 2017.
2017-2022: Mohammed Salah
Egyptian King Mohammed Salah has been Liverpool’s best player ever since he joined the club from AS Roma in 2017. In his first season in the Premier League, he eclipsed Luis Suarez’s record of 31 goals in 2017/18, where he scored 32 goals in 33 matches. He also continued his form in the following seasons and scored 22, 19, and 22, out of which he won the Golden boot in 2017/18 and 2018/19. His goals helped Liverpool end their Premier League drought in 2019/20. In the 2022 season, Mohammed Salah was the top scorer in the Premier League alongside Son Heung-min of Spurs.
