For UFC athletes, weight-cutting is regarded as one of the toughest things to do before every fight. After making the contracted weight, they get 24 hours (or more, depending on the region) to rehydrate themselves for the fight. For former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, it consists of drinking an ample amount of hydration drinks. Surprisingly, it isn’t Logan Paul’s PRIME hydration.
Logan Paul and KSI’s PRIME Hydration is the official UFC sports drink. Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski are the first-ever official athletes of PRIME. However, Izzy’s nutritionist, Jordan Sullivan, recently posted a video of the fighter gaining weight after his UFC 305 weight cut. In the video, he dumped the PRIME drinks in the toilet and used a different brand.
According to the nutritionist, the brand he was using is more optimal than PRIME to rehydrate fighters. Other than that, the nutritionist listed down another sports drink, coconut water, and many other food items to recover from the tough weight cut. The video has since gone viral and caught the attention of many fight fans.
Many questioned the ongoing differences between PRIME and Adesanya’s team. Some even sarcastically mentioned that since collaborating with Prime, Izzy’s fighting career has experienced a downfall. On top of it, it wasn’t the first time Israel Adesanya’s nutritionist had criticized Prime on social media.
Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski’s nutritionist explain the demerits of PRIME Hydration
Last year, PRIME Hydration signed a global marketing partnership with UFC. Backed by social media influencers Logan Paul and KSI, it got a massive advertisement boost, and everyone started talking about it. The marketing of Prime was top-notch as they collaborated with various top sports teams such as Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, etc.
With UFC, Prime had a great deal of fighters promoting the drink. However, Israel Adesanya’s nutritionist, Jordan Sullivan, didn’t like this deal and warned others on social media. According to Sullivan, his fighters won’t be using PRIME at all.
I feel this deal couldn't be any more stupid. PRIME as a hydration is average at best but especially for UFC fighters who cut weight who genuinely need to be careful about how they rehydrate their bodies after weigh-in a product like this is terrible, borderline dangerous.Jordan Sullivan via Instagram
Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski have continued to promote Prime hydration despite the remarks made by their nutritionist. They created a promotional film for PRIME ahead of UFC 305, in which they offered free tickets to the fight night. It appears that they still don’t want to lose the sponsorship money from the agreement, regardless of their own preferences.
