Lorenzo Musetti wrapped up the strongest season of his career, even though he did not secure a title. He reached three finals but fell short in each one.
During his first appearance at the ATP Finals, he was knocked out in the group stage. Afterward, he spoke with Eurosport Italia about his year. Musetti said on Eurosport Italia:
The main difference between Sinner and Alcaraz is that Jannik has shown that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for him to lose a match against an inferior opponent, but for Carlos, it sometimes happens, as it did in the first round in Paris, where he lost to Cameron Norrie, which was unexpected. And, in my opinion, that’s the beauty of their rivalry. But let’s also hope that we, the other players, will get closer to them.
When asked about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, Musetti compared the two and highlighted what separates them. He acknowledged their dominance and explained why they are difficult to challenge.

Musetti missed direct entry into the ATP Finals after losing the Athens final to Novak Djokovic. However, Djokovic withdrew at the last moment, allowing Musetti to compete as the first alternate, where he earned one win against Alex de Minaur.
Italy gets major negative news after securing three-peat at the Davis Cup
The Davis Cup has faced several problems in 2025, and another setback has now been confirmed. Prize money for the event’s first edition in Bologna will be significantly lower than what was offered in Malaga last year.

Italy continued their remarkable run by winning the Davis Cup once again, defeating Spain in the final. This victory makes them the first nation since 1972 to claim three consecutive Davis Cup titles.
Last year, Italy earned $2,678,571 for their championship win, while the Netherlands finished as runners-up and received $1,607,143. Germany and Australia each collected $1,071,429 for reaching the semi-finals.
This year’s prize structure shows a noticeable drop. The 2025 champions in Bologna will receive $2 million, with the runners-up set to earn $1.5 million. Semi-finalists will take home $750,000, and teams eliminated in their first match of the Final 8 will earn $500,000.
The total prize pool for the event stands at $7 million. Teams are free to decide how the money is distributed once the competition ends.
Jannik Sinner chose not to play in this year’s Final 8, even though it was hosted in Italy for the first time. Carlos Alcaraz also withdrew due to injury, leaving Alexander Zverev as the only top-ten player in the field.
Jannik Sinner ignored in a major ATP award nomination
Carlos Alcaraz has been nominated for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, a category that notably excludes world No. 2 Jannik Sinner. The award honours fairness, professionalism, and integrity on and off the court, and was famously dominated by Roger Federer, who won it 13 times between 2004 and 2017.

Alcaraz is aiming for his second win after first receiving the award in 2023. Grigor Dimitrov, last year’s winner, returns as a nominee alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime and Casper Ruud. Sinner’s absence is likely tied to his suspension earlier this year, following a positive test for a banned substance at the 2024 Indian Wells Masters.
The ATP has also announced its Breakthrough of the Year nominees. Jack Draper made the list after his Indian Wells title and entry into the top 10, while Joao Fonseca, Miami champion Jakub Mensik, and Shanghai Masters surprise winner Valentin Vacherot are also included. Sinner appears in another category, with his coaches Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi nominated for Coach of the Year.
Novak Djokovic, despite his long and successful career, never received the sportsmanship award and was often absent from the Fans’ Favorite list. That category was traditionally dominated by Federer and Nadal and has recently been won by Sinner. All ATP Awards winners, including Fans’ Favorite, will be announced during Awards Week starting on December 8.
