Los Angeles Clippers lose over 1 Million followers after ‘Thank You’ post for Russell Westbrook
The trade brings an end to Westbrook's time with the Clippers, and marks a new chapter for both the team and the player.
Russell Westbrook
The Los Angeles Clippers have suffered a significant loss after trading Russell Westbrook, a former MVP and all-time triple-double leader. The trade resulted in a massive loss of 1.4 million followers on Instagram, bringing their total followers down to 5.3 million.
This loss, combined with the departure of Paul George to free agency, may foreshadow a difficult future for the Clippers. The Clippers traded Westbrook to the Utah Jazz as part of a sign-and-trade deal, which will likely see him join the Denver Nuggets after being waived and having his contract bought out.
The Nuggets are looking to add a veteran backup point guard, and Russell Westbrook fits the bill. He provides energy, defense, and playmaking ability, making him a valuable asset for the team. Despite his career lows last season, he showed glimpses of his former self, playing some of the best individual defense of his career.
The Clippers are moving forward with Kawhi Leonard and James Harden, and have added defensive-minded players like Kris Dunn, Derrick Jones Jr., and Nicolas Batum in free agency. While the loss of Westbrook and George is significant, the team is looking to rebuild and find success in the future.
Clippers’ Lawrence Frank praises Russell Westbrook in farewell statement
The LA Clippers have officially traded Russell Westbrook after a two-year stint with the team. Despite his desire to be in LA, Westbrook’s fit with the franchise was always awkward, and his role became even more unclear after the team traded for James Harden.
Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank praised Westbrook and thanked him for his contributions to the team and wished him well in his continued career. The trade brings an end to Westbrook’s time with the Clippers and marks a new chapter for both the team and the player.
Russ is an all-time great and we were fortunate to have him here. He lifted the energy and intensity of the group. We look forward to seeing him continue his decorated career.Frank Lawrence said addressing the reporters
In his two seasons with the Clippers, Westbrook averaged 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, but only started in 32 of the 89 games he played. He averaged 24.2 minutes per game and shot 46% from the field, 30% from three, and 68% from the free throw line.
