The tennis world has been shaken by the Jannik Sinner incident. He tested positive for a banned steroid, but an independent tribunal found him not guilty and resolved the issue in about four months.
Amidst criticism from all corners, Sinner was slammed by former World No. 10 Lucas Pouille, who took to X to express his thoughts about the entire controversy. In that short tweet, the Frenchman wrote that tennis players are not fools to blindly believe what has been said about Sinner’s case.
Maybe they should stop taking us for fools, no?Lucas Pouille wrote on X

Sinner landed in trouble in March this year when his physiotherapist applied a spray containing banned clostebol on his finger to treat a wound. When the physiotherapist was massaging Sinner, the substance entered his body due to the lesions on his skin.
As per Sinner’s social media post, he and his team were informed about the test results in April and a thorough investigation concluded that Sinner did not violate doping rules intentionally. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) published the report on August 20th, a day after Sinner’s win at the Cincinnati Open.
Marco Bortolotti slams tennis players for criticizing Jannik Sinner for avoiding ban
Marco Bortolotti, the World No. 355, came out in defense of Jannik Sinner after players like Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov, and Lucas Pouille criticized Sinner for escaping a ban. Kyrgios called for a two-year ban, while Shapovalov sarcastically said, “different rules for different players.”
Bortolotti who also tested positive for a banned substance toward the end of 2023, was cleared of any wrongdoing three months later. He rubbished claims that Sinner was treated differently than others because he is a top-ranked player. Bortolotti’s case wasn’t made public sooner, just like Sinner’s.
Those like Kyrgios, Pouille or Shapovalov who speak out of turn are because they have not done analysis and do not know what they are talking about. They read a title and speak because they have the tongue or because they are envious. (Jannik Sinner) has all my solidarity and support.Marco Bortolotti told Ubi tennis
Sinner, who recently won his fifth title of this season at the Cincinnati Open, has shifted his focus to the US Open. He will also be chasing his second Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows, having lifted the Australian Open in January this year.
