New York Mets infielder Luisangel Acuna celebrated his first MLB HR, boosting the team against the Washington Nationals in a 10-1 win at Citi Field on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old recorded his 1st career extra-base hit, 1st RBI, and 1st home run.
The night was laureated with loud cheers throughout the stadium, as the Francisco Lindor-less team got their rizz back with the addition of Acuna and Jose Iglesias. In their game against the Nationals, two names that got hugely praised were Acuna and Pete Alonso.
The third inning on Tuesday witnessed the infielder struggle with an ugly error which was later redeemed throughout the rest of the game. Alonso led the game with a three-run homer and 5 RBIs to give NY their much-needed boost.
Manager Carlos Mendoza highly praised Luisangel Acuna for his performance and demeanor on the field. He even said Acuna belongs in the major leagues. Prior to his call to MLB, he struggled in the minors, and only due to Lindor’s absence due to back soreness, did he get called up to the roster.
He’s calm (and) poised. It's just like he belongs in the big leagues.Carlos Mendoza on X.

When asked what Acuna thought of the compliment, he confidently stated, “I think it’s something I earned and what he said isn’t a lie.” His teammate at Triple-A Tylor Megill said that it’s his confidence that sets him apart. The way he plays swinging his bat and giving it his all are qualities that Acuna possesses.

Even Pete Alonso said he’s impressed with how quickly “he’s jelled” to the big league. “He’s a complete pro so far…I’m impressed with how he goes about business,” Alonso added. Part of it is thanks to his brother Ronald Acuna Jr., Atlanta Braves outfielder, who is a star player in his team.

NY Mets infielder Luisangel Acuna credited his brother Ronald Acuna Jr. for giving him the confidence to stand and make stellar plays in the major league. He noted that it was because of his brother that he could adjust to MLB so quickly.
So far Luisangel Acuna’s performance has made sure to be impactful for the team, so they keep him in the lineup for October games regardless of Lindor’s return. The team had been considering a call-up for their No.12 prospect, but Francisco Lindor’s injury pushed him to the edge last week.
I was working hard to do everything I could at Triple-A and now I’m just here to help in any way I possibly can. It was difficult at the beginning of the season, but I was able to make adjustments.Luisangel Acuna on X.

In the wake of Lindor’s injury, Alonso stated that they’ve got to rise up to the occasion and get those wins for the playoffs. Their focus remains to add up points further to secure their playoff spot before September ends.
