Pairing up Kyrie Irving with Luka Doncic has been a game-changing decision for the Dallas Mavericks. Irving’s addition has changed the Mavericks’ game and the team has made it to the NBA finals after 13 years. With their partnered offensive efforts, the duo has also been the pillar of leadership for the rest of the players.

Ahead of the first finals game, the Mavericks rookie Dereck Lively spoke about the role Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving play in the locker room for the team. The rookie talked about the respect for the duo’s words and the shared accountability among the players. 

Their voice is law. If you're on bullsh*t they're going to call you out. At the same time, they have the same respect for you if they're on bullsh*t and you're supposed to call them out. said.

As Doncic has led the team in the past, Irving’s add-on experience has been incredibly beneficial for the team. During the postseason the team has shown amazing chemistry on and off the court which has reflected in their performance.

Lively especially surprised the viewers in his debut season as he also made history in the playoffs. It is safe to say that the rookie is learning from the best and is on one of the best rosters in the league.

Dereck Lively stated that his teammates make him want to do more

The rookie season has been full of ups and downs for Lively. The 20-year-old lost his mother and was also injured in the Western Conference amid an amazing run. However, the rookie did not budge from both incidents as he bounced back from the grief and the injury. The Mavericks’ success has also helped Lively to keep on going.

As the forward center spoke about the leadership of Doncic-Irving, Lively also reflected on the trust between the players. Lively opened up about how his teammates having his back has made him do more and also reciprocate the actions. The star gave a solid response to the reason behind the Mavericks’ chemistry. 

A whole lot of trust, just a whole lot of communication. In life, you could think someone has your back, but you're never really going to know unless it happens in game play. You get blown by, you see your teammate putting his body on the line for you, makes you just want to do that much more.
