Luka Doncic has found a new home with the Los Angeles Lakers. After spending over six seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, he was shockingly traded to the Lakers at last year’s trade deadline.

While it was difficult for Doncic to adjust to his new environment at first, as he wanted to spend many more years in Dallas, he has settled in with the purple and gold. Playing for a storied franchise like the Lakers comes with its immense pressure and expectations.

The Lakers recently announced a new book detailing the franchise’s history from the Minneapolis days to the present. It features photographs, artwork, and original stories and essays from influential figures throughout the franchise’s illustrious history.

An essay from Luka Doncic made headlines as he spoke about being honored to play for the Lakers.

I’m not sure that I ever could have imagined being here and wearing purple and gold. It’s a wonderful surprise and it feels amazing and now I desperately want what all Lakers want. To win it all. I won’t rest until we win more championships.

The Lakers have officially entered a new era since LeBron James‘ move to the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer. Since his exit, the organization has undergone some big roster changes and has had a change in ownership as well.

With Luka Doncic as the centerpiece, the Lakers front office has made a number of acquisitions as they have built their team around him. The Slovenian star looks more ready than ever heading into the new campaign, and his passionate message will no doubt have the fanbase fired up for the upcoming season.

Luka Doncic is eager to write his own championship chapters with the Lakers

Luka Doncic is coming off an impressive individual campaign. He won the scoring title last season as he averaged 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 64 appearances. His performances saw him come fourth in the MVP race.

The Lakers have boasted several all-time greats throughout their history. They have won 17 championships since their Minneapolis days, which is second in the league behind the Boston Celtics.

To cement his status in purple and gold, Doncic has to deliver championships in LA, and he has his goals set on doing so.

I used to let my game do most of the talking, but I want Lakers fans to know that I am ready, excited, and eager to deliver. So ready. This is a city that is used to winning and winning big. I am so honored and grateful that I get the chance now to write my own championship chapters.

After leading the Mavs to the NBA Finals two years ago, Doncic has not made any meaningful postseason run. He was eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves in his first postseason for the Lakers, and a hamstring injury saw him miss this year’s playoffs.

Former Lakers champion Norm Nixon weighed in on the expectations that come with Luka Doncic becoming the face of the franchise.

Got to win championships. You’ve got to win, man. If you’re the guy and you don’t win, after a few years, they go, ‘Hey, what’s going on now? I thought you brought him in here to build around him so we could win championships.

Doncic and the Lakers have their fair share of doubters before the new season gets underway after all the changes they made to their roster in the summer. However, with a player like Doncic in the lineup, the Lakers will be hoping that everything he has promised in his message will come true.
