The Dallas Mavericks are looking like the ‘real deal’ going into the 2024-25 NBA season. This past 2023-24 NBA season they performed admirably, clinching the Western Conference and falling just shy of an NBA title. Additionally, they have added top player, Klay Thompson to their star-studded roster. This addition will be a huge boost for Mavs stars like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
Interestingly, former NBA point guard Gilbert Arenas shared his pick for the next MVP of the league in an episode of the podcast “Gil’s Arena.” Arenas thinks Luka Doncic has an opportunity to record a triple-double for the Mavericks. He also claimed that Doncic would win the MVP award. However, it won’t be an easy task for Doncic to win the MVP award with immense competition surrounding him in the league.
I don't want to put this type of pressure on him, I'd be surprised if he don't average a triple-double. If you were averaging that many assists with what you had and now you've got a guy who can catch and shoot so some of your assists will come without even any effort. You should average a triple-double. And he will probably be the number one candidate for MVP.Gilbert Arenas On Gil’s Arena Podcas
It’s important to note that, since Westbrook, no player has recorded a triple-double in a single season. Although Doncic almost did so in the previous campaign. He averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists, 9.2 rebounds, and 48.7% shooting in 70 games.
With a 50-32 record, he led the Mavericks to the fifth spot in the West. Hence, with Arenas rooting for Doncic to record a triple-double, it will be interesting to watch how Doncic performs in the 2024-25 NBA season.
Klay Thompson ‘ready’ for upcoming 2024-25 NBA season
Klay Thompson is gushing over the Dallas Mavericks, his new team, and is very optimistic about them. He stated that joining the Mavs “was a fresh start.” Thompson also said that he was thrilled about the new chance during an ESPN press conference. Also, Thompson solves a major issue for the Mavericks: their shooting outside the 3-point line.
Coming here is just such a fresh start, Feeling just wanted again, like I bring great value, it just gets me excited to go out there and also work out after this press conference and get a few shots up...It's really cool, and I am going to embrace the heck out of this opportunity.Klay Thompson told ESPN reporters
It’s important to note that, the Warriors have decided to retire Thompson’s No. 11 jersey. This was done in observance of their dedication to honoring Thompson for his four NBA titles. That said, all eyes will be on Klay Thompson and his new teammates Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Hence, it will be intriguing to watch how Thompson and his teammates perform in the 2024-25 NBA season.
