Amateur golfer Luke Clanton is making waves at the 2024 John Deere Classic. He has fired back-to-back rounds of 63 and 67 to sit in a tie for fourth place at 12-under par through 36 holes. Despite his young age, Clanton has proven himself at the highest levels of amateur golf.

He was invited to represent the United States on the prestigious Palmer Cup team. However, he declined that opportunity to compete against the world’s best professionals. The 20-year-old rising junior has been poised and composed, repeatedly emphasizing that he is “having fun” on the course.

I’m having fun out there no matter what. To make some birdies on the side is pretty sweet, no doubt, but I am just having a lot of fun. … I got a close group and those guys are brothers to me, so it’s awesome that they reach out all the time. It’s pretty cool.

Luke Clanton said while speaking to the media after Round 2

Clanton is the No. 1 ranked amateur in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings. He has already turned down $200,000 in prize money from his top-ten finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Luke Clanton’s goal is to win a national championship with his team at Florida State University. Despite his success, he remains committed to his amateur status.
