Wardrobe malfunctions are nothing new in WWE and have been faced by various superstars over the years, especially female talent. Lyra Valkyria unfortunately went through something similar at the Royal Rumble and talked about her experience during an appearance on the Battleground Podcast.

Lyra Valkyria said that out of all the places this could have happened to her, it had to happen during the biggest performance of her career at the Royal Rumble. Regardless, it was something that was totally out of her control. Thus, she was proud of the way she handled it. At the end of the day, what mattered was that she got to walk that ramp as the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

During the Women’s Rumble, Valkyria was attempting to throw Iyo Sky over the ropes when she realized that her top was about to come off and stepped away. Liv Morgan, showing great ring awareness, pushed the reigning Women’s Intercontinental Champion into the corner so that she could step away from the spotlight and fix her ring gear. Talking about this moment, the 28-year-old said that she had never been so happy to be hit in the face.

Of course, it would be in the Royal Rumble—my biggest show ever. Why not? My top just had to fall off. I’ve never been so happy to be hit in the face.

Fans also appreciated Valkyria for handling the situation as well as she could. Even someone much more experienced than her, Charlotte Flair, isn’t so smooth when it comes to handling situations like these. She went through a similar wardrobe malfunction during a triple threat match at SummerSlam 2023 and completely paused the match. She then approached the referee for help. Meanwhile, her opponents, Asuka and Bianca Belair, continued to stand around the corner doing nothing.

Lyra Valkyria speaks about the growth of women’s wrestling in WWE

Women’s wrestling has come a long way, especially in WWE. Gone are the days when female talent was treated as mere eye candy. They are no longer put through embarrassing moments on TV. Neither are they forced to participate in stipulations like a Bra & Panties match. During her appearance on the Battleground podcast, Valkyria also talked about how far women’s wrestling had come.

Valkyria said that the “Give Divas a Chance” moment was pivotal in making women’s wrestling what it is today. This paved the way for people like The Four Horsewomen, comprising Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks, to take the company to a new era in terms of its female talent.

I feel like women’s wrestling is just wrestling, and we’re at the best point we possibly can on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. But yeah, I’m always gonna want more time, more platforms, more women’s opportunities, but I think we’re in a very good spot right now.

She said that things had now completely changed with the way that women were portrayed on WWE. They were putting on all-women PPVs, and women were even main-eventing WrestleMania. The best thing about this was that it did not feel out of place or forced. Rather, it was normal to see women get the spotlight while headlining a show.
