Bjorn Fratangelo went from staying quiet to becoming the coach who helped Madison Keys win her first Grand Slam. At first, he never gave her advice and felt uncomfortable telling her what to do. But over time, that changed.

Keys and Fratangelo’s journey has been special. They started dating in 2017 and got engaged in March 2023. During those years, he never talked about tennis with her. But in June 2023, he became her head coach, and he had to adjust.

He started helping me about a year and a half, two years ago, and he really didn’t want to do it. He said he wasn’t comfortable telling me what to do and he didn’t want to do it. I had to force him to come with me.

Their relationship grew even more when they got married in November 2024. Since then, they have improved both on and off the court. Keys admitted that Fratangelo had to change his coaching style, but it worked.

The two won their first title as a married couple at the Adelaide International in early 2025. A few weeks later, Keys won the Australian Open, making their success even greater.

Madison Keys set for career revival after the Australian Open

For years, Madison Keys carried the burden of unfulfilled Grand Slam hopes. Since her tough loss in the 2017 US Open final, she was always close but never quite there. She made deep runs in big events but fell short each time.

Now, as she nears her 30th birthday, Keys is playing some of her best tennis. She is back in the Top 10 and finally feels like she belongs. Her confidence is higher than it has been in years. A WTA rule kept her out of the ATX Open, as only one Top 10 player can enter a WTA 250 event. But she will return in Dubai on February 17. She hopes to build on her big win at the Australian Open.

The pressure of chasing a first Grand Slam title is gone. That could make her even more dangerous in 2025. With a strong mindset and her powerful game, Keys might be stepping into the best phase of her career.
