Goldberg was rumored to be gearing up for his final WWE match sometime this year. Reports have indicated that the WCW icon was actively preparing for his in-ring return, which could happen in the coming months. A major update has now surfaced regarding his status, shedding light on a potential timeline for his comeback. Interestingly, the update also hints at a possible opponent for what could be Goldberg’s farewell match.
According to BodySlam.net, the former Universal Champion is expected to return next week on Monday Night Raw. He is reportedly set to confront the newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, in what could be a highly intense showdown. If this report holds true, it could pave the way for a blockbuster match between the two at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.
Moreover, Gunther and Goldberg had a heated confrontation at Bad Blood last year. Since then, The Ring General was widely rumored to be the WCW icon’s opponent for his final match. While speculation about their potential clash has been swirling for quite some time, there has yet to be any significant follow-up to that intense face-off.
Additionally, the former Universal Champion’s last WWE match took place at the Elimination Chamber event in Saudi Arabia in 2022. He faced Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship but suffered a decisive loss. With over three years since that appearance, fans are excited to see if Goldberg can secure a victory in what could be his final WWE match.
Goldberg recently revealed the real reason for the delay in his retirement match
Goldberg was rumored to have his retirement match in 2024, with his confrontation against Gunther at Bad Blood serving as the perfect setup. However, unexpected delays have pushed the anticipated clash back by nearly a year. Recently, the former Universal Champion opened up about the reasons behind the delay, revealing what caused him to wait so long for his long-awaited retirement match.

Speaking with CarCast, the WCW icon revealed that he has set a high standard for his health before stepping into the ring for his final match. While he admitted that the bar might seem unrealistic to some, he believes he’s doing a great job in reaching it. Goldberg emphasized that he needs to be in the right mental and physical space to return to the path of domination in WWE one last time.
It’s just tough. I got a very high bar that I set for myself and 99 times out of 100 it’s unrealistic and I just gotta be at a certain place mentally and physically to accomplish what I’m about to embark upon and it’s tough. It’s really, really tough.
