Manchester City skipper Kyle Walker expressed excitement after completing a move to Serie A side AC Milan on loan. He will remain at the Italian club for the rest of the season. The six-time Premier League winner ended his eight-year long association with the Cityzens.

Kyle Walker‘s mid-season transfer out of Man City does not come as a surprise. The 34-year-old right-back has seen his role reduced under manager Pep Guardiola this season. Furthermore, he hasn’t impacted City’s recent slump all that well.

He only managed to start 11 matches for the club this term, failing to score a goal or even assist one. Walker had fallen down the pecking order, with Rico Lewis being preferred instead. As such, Walker chose to leave the club.

The loan deal also has a clause of a €5 million transfer fee to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. He completed a medical before signing the contract. Walker becomes Milan’s first signing under new manager Sergio Conceicao, who led them to a recent Supercoppa triumph. He is expected to wear the number 32 shirt at AC Milan.

In a social media message following his transfer, the 34-year-old expressed delight over having signed for AC Milan, a club with a rich history. Kyle Walker also admitted that he has been following the club since he was a kid. Walker began a new chapter in his footballing career. He later revealed that Three Lions teammate Tammy Abraham persuaded him to join the club.

Kyle Walker is expected to make his debut for AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnia against city-rivals Inter Milan. Following Walker’s arrival, the club now has four right-back options, including captain Davide Calabria, Alessandro Florenzi, and Emerson Aparecido.

Walker stated that he wished to pay tribute to English legend David Beckham, through his shirt number selection. The number 32 was worn by the English legend during his loan spells at AC Milan back in 2009 and 2010. While Beckham’s Milan career was only limited to 33 appearances, Walker hopes to leave behind a legacy at the Italian side.

Only time will tell if the loan deal becomes a vital aspect for Milan to push forward with their aspirations to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
