Rahem Sterling says Manchester City has proven that they were extra hungry and thirsty for their first Champions League title glory after their win over Real Madrid to progress to the quarter finals.

Manchester City progressed 4-2 on aggregate to the quarterfinals of the Champions League following a 2-1 home win over Real Madrid.

Raheem Sterling broke the deadlock and registered his 100th goal in all competitions for Manchester City on Friday.

Varane was caught in possession by Gabriel Jesus, who finds Raheem Sterling who guided it home to open the scoring.

Sterling has been recently known to be aspired to win the first ever Champions league with Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling told PA Sport:

“We were extra hungry against Real Madrid.

“I think the mentality since we got back in – day one after lockdown – has been how much we want this. We’ve got the energy to progress in this competition. Energy and fight – we showed that against Madrid throughout the game.

“There are teams in his competition with great quality. We have to keep up the energy and play our football. We want to go out there and play our football.

“The most important thing is to run and give 100 per cent for every minute we are in the competition.

“It’s a new format and it’s one we are ready for. All we can do now is go over there and run our socks off. That will make the difference and decide whether we progress or not.”

Gabriel Jesus capitalised second goal on that night, sealing the deal for the Sky Blues after Varane easily gifted away position – winning the tie 2-1.

“He’s not a sub, we’ve got two great strikers at this club.

“Both strikers score goals and when you play with either one of them you know what you expect from each of them.

“They are both top players in front of goal. You saw on Friday from Gabby – his calmness in front of goal was brilliant.” – he said.
