Manchester United fixes a date for a final decision on Mason Greenwood after his acquittal from s***al assault charges

Manchester United have fixed the 14th of August as the final date to deliver their decision about the future of Mason Greenwood. While the youngster was recently acquitted of all the charges of assault against him. The United boss cheekily said it’s a club decision to be made around his future. It still doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of a return or termination. Hence, Erik ten Hag, the Carabao-Cup-winning manager clearly hasn’t said anything against the situation either.

The boss of the Red Devils doesn’t seem to mind a possible return to the talented youngster. Like many United fans, who are still dying to see their academy wunderkind return to scoring ways. The question should focus on how this affects football in general and the problem with the legal system favoring the wealthy, not just Manchester United or Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood burst onto the scene in his debut season, scoring some beautiful goals for the club, and has picked up headlines for good and bad reasons. After his suspension at the Euro 2020, questions were asked about the professional’s discipline. Whether he will be given a second chance to prove himself right on the biggest stage will be answered by the club in a fortnight.

Manchester United as a club represents a legacy in football in all of England. Hence their stand on a situation like this, given their conservative American owners, might be pretty safe. Mason Greenwood was dancing around the football pitch and scoring from acute angles, but now he has been doing the same around the courts of law to clear out his name.

It’s fair to say the player possessed the talent to be at the top of the game. But with the current extremities and expectations out of modern football, will he ever get a second chance? No one can predict that. But United fans remain hopeful that they could still see a return of Greenwood.
