Erik ten Hag rejoiced as Manchester United returned to winning ways by securing a 2-1 comeback victory over Brentford. Following the win, the Dutch manager was applauded and cheered by fans at Old Trafford, and ‘Ten Hag’ chants roared throughout the stadium.

The Red Devils got the better of the visitors, in a heated encounter that was marred with controversy. The Bees took a late first-half lead, thanks to a header by defender Ethan Pinnock off a corner. However, United manager Erik ten Hag protested against the referee’s decision to allow the goal, as Matthijs de Ligt was receiving treatment for a serious head injury on the sidelines. United staged a second-half comeback through goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund to complete their redemption.

Ten Hag and his assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy were booked for questioning the referee’s decision, as the Dutch manager pointed to the ‘injustice’ inflicted upon him. Brentford’s opening goal, ten Hag stated, fueled anger among players and fans, who reacted sharply after the win. Moreover, the win was a much-needed one for the Red Devils, having last defeated Southampton 3-0, back in September, followed by two draws and a dismal defeat against Tottenham.

The win allowed Ten Hag’s side to move to the 11th position on the Premier League table, with just 11 points from eight matches. They next face Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the UEFA Europa League group stage, followed by a tough EPL encounter against West Ham United.

Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt suffers bloody head injury against Brentford

De Ligt’s head collided with Schade’s knee, following which he was sent to the sidelines twice for treatment. After the medical staff failed to stop the bleeding in the first attempt, he was ordered to receive treatment for the messy wound by the referee. However, in his absence, the visitors took a quick lead, courtesy of a goal from Ethan Pinnock.

It remains to be seen what lies ahead for the young center-back, who joined from Bayern Munich this summer. De Ligt’s injury was later assessed by doctors, after the match, and details of his condition are yet to be ascertained.
