Premier League: Manchester United vs West Ham United players ratings as Red Devils snatch late winner to down Hammers 1-0

Manchester United vs West Ham United: Ralf Rangnick’s Red Devils welcomed David Moyes’ West Ham United to the Theatre of Drams in Matchweek 23. 

It was a sloppy first-half performance from both sides, United dominated the possession early on but both teams were guilty of giving away the ball cheaply. Second half of the game had plenty more chances and despite a late surge from West United, it was the Red Devils who had the last laugh as Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score again from virtually the last kick of the game.

Manchester United

David de Gea (7/10): Didn’t have much to do in the first half but the veteran produced a couple of big saves close to the end of the game. 

Diogo Dalot (8.5/10): The Portuguese defender gave a account of himself in the first half, showed willingness and determination. Dalot was an attacking threat throughout the ninety minutes and the youngster was reliable at the back too. 

Raphaël Varane (7/10): The former Real Madrid defender moved the ball around nicely, he didn’t have much to do in the early parts of the fixture. Varane nearly scored the opener but couldn’t make his header count. 

Harry Maguire (7.5/10): Harry Maguire began the game well, was spot-on with his tackles, was booked for a rash challenge on Bowen but otherwise he was solid and defended really well. 

Alex Telles (7.5/10): The Brazilian had a decent game, he was involved in plenty of attacks, and it was his long pass which Ronaldo latched onto, that paved the way for Rashford’s winner. 

Fred (7/10): Fred played well in the first-half, was springing passes together with McTominay and Fernandes. He gave a good account of himself and would be happy with his performance. 

Scott McTominay (7.5/10): The Scottish enforcer had a decent first half, he worked really hard, was tidying up for his teammates. McTominay did his job well and bossed the midfield alongside Fred. 

Bruno Fernandes (7/10): Fernandes had a good first half, he was even involved in the defensive side of things, but the Portugese lacked an attacking edge and looked visibly frustrated with things not going his way. 

Cristiano Ronaldo (7.5/10): Ronaldo had an early sight at goal and even a penalty shout which wasn’t given. He was involved in majorly every United attack and provided a nice-pre assist to Rashford’s winner.  

Mason Greenwood (7/10): Greenwood had an average game. He had his moments, he was a threat on the wing but failed to lacked that final pass. 

Anthony Elanga (7/10): The youngster was a menace down the left-wing, he showed urgency and tenacity. Elanga had a sight at goal in the second half but couldn’t make the chance count and paved the way for Marcus Rashford early in the second-half. 

Substitutes:

Marcus Rashford (8/10): The young Englishman was in the thick of action from the moment he came on. Scored the all-important winning goal to win his side all three-points. 

Edinson Cavani (7/10): Edinson Cavani provided the assist to Marcus Rashford and brought about urgency into the game from the moment he stepped onto the pitch. 

Anthony Martial (7/10): Anthony Martial may not have been playing lately but he too had an instant positive impact on the game. He had a couple of chances but looked to be lacking sharpness.  

West Ham United

Alphonse Areola (7.5/10): Areola didn’t have many saves to make in the first half, but his distribution of the ball could have been better. Began the second-half well with a decent save to keep the scores level. 

Aaron Cresswell (7.5/10): The Englishman had a decent game, he showed determination to attack and was pretty involved in various attacks as well. 

Kurt Zouma (7.5/10): The Frenchman looked solid, was keeping United at bay, he made a late tackle to deny Anthony Martial which summed up his decent performance on the day. 

Vladimir Coufal (7/10): Coufal was combining really well with Bown in the first half, he did his job on the day, rotated the ball well and was replaced mid-day through the second half. 

Craig Dawson (7.5/10): The 31-year-old didn’t have much to do in the first half, although he stood his ground when called upon. Was much more involved in the second half and he timed his tackles well. 

Pablo Fornals (7/10): Fornals grew into the game as it proceeded, moving the ball around nicely, he was one of the bright sparks from the Hammers. 

Manuel Lanzini (6.5/10): Lanzini had a couple of good touches but apart from that he failed to support Michail Antonio enough in attacks. 

Jarrod Bowen (8/10): Bowen began the game really well, he was a livewire and looked really threatening. The Englishman was West Ham’s best player on the day alongside Declan Rice.

Tomas Soucek (7.5/10): Soucek was also involved in most of the Hammers’ attacks, looked nice and tidy as usual, came closest to troubling the scorers late in the second half but didn’t quite direct his header goal-bound. In general Soucek had his moments but failed to make them pay. 

Declan Rice (8/10): The West Ham skipper looked solid early on, he was everywhere on the pitch, helping in defending while starting attacking transitions as well. Another promising performance from the Englishman. 

Michail Antonio (6.5/10): The Jamaican striker was given a hard time with chances far and few in between, whenever he got the ball, United defenders crowded him and he was left without support for large parts of the game. 

Substitutes:

Ryan Fredericks (6.5/10): Fredericks was at fault for United’s winning goal, he failed to judge Telles’ long ball, the 29-year-old was decent otherwise, but was caught out of position which cost his team on the day.
