Minnesota Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury almost botched his perfectly decorated career by allowing one of the worst goals of his NHL career. However, he was quick to recover and boost the team to a 5-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday at Rogers Place.
He not only recovered and helped the team win but also became the NHL’s third goalie to play over 1,000+ games. On Thursday, he played his 1,030th NHL game, surpassing Patrick Roy’s record of 1,029. Roberto Luongo sits in 2nd place with 1,044 and Martin Brodeur at 1,266.
His career started in 2003 when the Pittsburgh Penguins drafted him as the No.1 in the list. Apart from the Wild and Penguins, he has also played with the Vegas Golden Knights and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Talking about his mistake in the early period on Thursday, Marc-Andre Fleury noted how he was frustrated and angry at first but later laughed it off. Seeing him chill near the goalpost, his teammates also relaxed and shared “a little chuckle” on the benches.

Following the incident, the Wilds started tapping their sticks against Fleury’s pad and then on the scoreboard to show their support. Despite the Oilers getting a heads-up on that goal, Wilds forward Matt Boldy scored before the period was over to make up for Fleury’s miss.
Fleury is well-loved throughout the NHL. His jokester personality is contagious and is famously known as the league’s ‘Flower’. The team’s forward Kirill Kaprisov said “he’s funny” and how he always gets back to his form and learns from his mistakes.
Minnesota Wild players and coach rave about Marc-Andre Fleury on and off ice
Marc-Andre Fleury said it’s tough to stop the puck at the beginning of a game, especially if a player is out after a while. But once he was locked in he made 28 saves in his 1,030th NHL game. Coach John Hynes also appreciated the veteran player for being on the team for his final run and always bringing positive energy into the locker room.
Fleury even did “a little celly” to let his teammates know that he’s okay now and ready to stop any further pucks at his post. Marcus Foligno even said that Fleury is the most positive person on the team and it helps the rest to stay the same.
That's one long-lasting flower ?

While Fleury loves being part of the team and winning games with them, he is set to retire after the 2024-25 season. He already declared how he doesn’t want there to be any flashy goodbye just some time to recollect old memories was enough.
The fans will undoubtedly miss his pranks and jolly personality on the ice. He is an NHL beloved ‘Flower,’ and the fans, despite his wishes, are adamant about recalling and celebrating his last day as an NHLer.
