The New York Jets will enter the 2024-25 football season with a lot of hype, once again. Following the disastrous start to their previous season after Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury, the Jets’ popularity has not waned and there is no denying that the reason for this is the four-time MVP himself.
Aaron Rodgers has begun to practice at the team’s organized team activities. However, he has not been regular and has opted to skip the first day of the New York Jets mandatory minicamp. Should this be a point of concern or should the vet be allowed to get away with it? Marcus Spears of ESPN believes his absence does not matter.
The analyst dismissed concerns of fans over Rodgers’ absence during an appearance on Fox Sports’ “Speak“.
It is excused, because it's Aaron Rodgers. He can do what the hell he wants, he's been doing it since he got there. This is his organization and his franchise. It's not necessarily the reps that I care about that Aaron Rodgers is missing. (He's) gonna play well if he's healthy and he's been there like he said in the off-season program.Marcus Spears said
Spears reaffirmed his faith in Rodgers and made it clear that when time comes to play, he will get the job done irrespective of his attendance at team minicamps.
Robert Saleh opens up on Aaron Rodgers missing OTAs
The four-time MVP has not always been present for OTAs but he is not accustomed to skipping mandatory minicamp. Meanwhile, head coach Robert Saleh is not surprised by his quarterback’s absence.
Aaron and I spoke before OTAs started, he's been very good in communication, he's been here the entire time. It's inexcused but he had an event that was very important to him, which he communicated.Robert Saleh said
Despite his absence being “inexcused”, Rodgers made sure to let Saleh know that he has certain commitments that he had to tend to.
As Marcus Spears said, it will not be that big of an issue because Aaron Rodgers can pick up right where he left off when he arrives. He is scheduled to miss the first two days of the team’s mandatory minicamp on the 11th and 12th of June. The ‘event’ in question remains unknown.

The only negative impact of his absence would be that Rodgers would be missing out on building chemistry with his new offensive line. He has had plenty of time to work with his receiving core so that will not be an issue. The Jets have a lot of expectations this season and the NFL has propped them up, giving them six prime time games for the year.
