Marlon Samuels found guilty under Anti-corruption code, sanctions to be announced in a few days

Jamaican All-rounder Marlon Samuels has been found guilty by an independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal. This Tribunal was appointed by the International Cricket Council after Samuels exercised his right to a hearing.
Samuels is a 2-time T20I World Cup winner, being man of the match in both the finals of the 2012 and 2016 World Cup. Samuels has played 71 Test Matches, 207 ODIs and 67 T20Is for West Indies, in a career spanning 24 years.
Marlon was charged by the ICC in September 2021 on 4 offences, all related to anti-corruption. All of these charges are related to his involvement with the Abu Dhabi T10 league. ICC is the designated anti corruption code of the Emirates Cricket Board.
The ICC had appointed Indian Advocate Harish Salve, South African Judge, Justice Kate O’Regan and English Barrister Michal Beloff.

Samuels has been found guilty under these 4 offenses
- Article 2.4.2 (by a majority decision) – Failing to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official, the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the Participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.
- Article 2.4.3 (unanimous decision)- Failing to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official receipt of hospitality with a value of US $750 or more.
- Article 2.4.6 (unanimous decision) – Failing to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation.
- Article 2.4.7 (unanimous decision) – Obstructing or delaying the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation by concealing information that may have been relevant to the investigation.
In 2019 Samuels was a part of the Karnataka Tuskers in the Abu Dhabi T10 league, but didn’t feature in a single game. Samuels retired from Cricket in 2020, playing his last International game for West Indies in an ODI against Bangladesh in December, 2018.
The tribunal will meet in a few days to decide on a sanction on Marlon Samuels based on the submissions of all parties. The ICC has uploaded the decision on their website for everyone to see. Names have been redacted to protect the identities of ICC witnesses and Third parties. Read it here.
