American tennis legend Martina Navratilova sided with renowned British author JK Rowling on the issue of problematic procedures being followed by doctors while transitioning children. As Rowling pointed out how doctors at gender clinics are allowing transitions without any physical and medical checkups, Navratilova agreed and flagged the irresponsibility.
It all started with JK Rowling sharing a post on X wherein she attached a video of a doctor talking about the procedure they follow while transitioning children. As the doctor beamed with pride while claiming that they don’t conduct any physical examinations and just ask a couple of questions before going ahead, Rowling highlighted the negligence.
She claimed that the evidence base for transitioning children is very poor. The British author also mentioned that “autistic, same-sex attracted and trauma-experienced youth are over-represented at gender clinics.” Rowling then criticized the doctor for promoting such negligence.
Navratilova, meanwhile, also came up with her opinion on the matter. She called the doctor a “flippant” and also termed the act criminal.
The irresponsibility of this is off the charts. I truly can’t believe how flippant this guy is about it all- no problem- the kid knows better than us so let’s get started on those puberty ASAP, shall we? It’s criminalMartina Navratilova posted on X while siding with JK Rowling.
Martina Navratilova and JK Rowling raise a serious concern
This is not the first time that JK Rowling and Martina Navratilova have spoken about ill practices in the name of transitioning and similar procedures. The two celebrities have expressed their displeasure at almost all problems related to this third-gender issue. Navratilova and Rowling have denied accepting that trans women are women and are also not convinced about allowing them in the space as biological women.
Now, Rowling has raised a much more serious concern which is the root cause of the problems being faced by many people. The British author has rightly pointed out the problem with transitioning children. A report published by Reuters in 2022 pointed out a similar concern which talked about the lack of scientific backing in this transition process.
The report claimed that “Puberty blockers and sex hormones do not have U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for children’s gender care. No clinical trials have established their safety for such off-label use. The drugs’ long-term effects on fertility and sexual function remain unclear.”
“More broadly, no large-scale studies have tracked people who received gender-related medical care as children to determine how many remained satisfied with their treatment as they aged and how many eventually regretted transitioning. The same lack of clarity holds true for the contentious issue of detransitioning, when a patient stops or reverses the transition process.”
The report talked about other such complications in this transitioning process and the current situation. It also talked about the rising number of patients at such gender clinics. This shows that there is a need to quickly intervene in this matter before things go haywire.
