Martina Navratilova has forever been a harsh critic of Donald Trump and the Republicans. But she condemned the murder of Trump’s ally Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Kirk, who co-founded the nonprofit political youth organization Turning Point USA, hosted a debate at the university. While sitting under a tent, he was talking with an audience member about gun violence and transgender people when someone in the crowd shot him in the neck, and moments afterward, he died, at the age of just 31.
This is a war, this is a war, this is a war. The left has been saying: ‘Put a bullseye on Trump, a bullseye on his supporters. They’ve been calling for violence.
Alex Jones said during a livestream on InfoWars
Jones is a far-right radio show host and a conspiracy theorist, and is also the founder of InfoWars. Political strategist Steve Bannon echoed similar sentiments during his interview with CNN.
We’re not gonna back off an inch. If you’re gonna back off, then this is not for you. Charlie Kirk gave his life for his country; he’s on the battlefield of political combat, OK. And they cut him down with an assassin’s bullet. Let’s be blunt about this: they cut him down with an assassin’s bullet.
For Navratilova, the murder of Kirk was an “abhorrent act from an abhorrent individual“. But she is also slamming those right-wing politicians or activists who are blaming the Democrats for the assassination. She wrote, “Here we go,” after claims of Jones and Bannon.

Martina Navratilova on Novak Djokovic’s US Open exit
Novak Djokovic played every semifinal at the Majors this season but couldn’t progress beyond this stage. At the recently concluded US Open, he was no match for eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz, losing the match in straight sets.

At the French Open and Wimbledon, it was the same story, as Djokovic lost to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals in straight sets. An injury stopped him from completing his Australian Open semifinal against Alexander Zverev. Martina Navratilova, following Djokovic’s exit at Flushing Meadows, said on Sky Sports that she suffered from similar problems as the 38-year-old when she reached the twilight of her career.
It stings. I went through it. The effort is the same, and you feel the same, but the biggest thing is I had to remind myself that if it was a drop shot, you’d better run. Whereas ten years ago, you just ran; you didn’t have to think about it. So it’s not that you are just that much slower, but your reaction is still there, so it’s like I have got to go.
It’s uncertain what Djokovic’s next tournament will be. But he has confirmed that he will be featuring in an ATP 250 event in Athens.
So far this season, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has reached two finals and clinched one title. He lost to Jakub Mensik in the Miami Open final and beat Hubert Hurkacz in the Geneva Open final to clinch his career’s 100th ATP title.
The last time the Belgrade native won a Major title was at the 2023 US Open by defeating Daniil Medvedev, and played only the Wimbledon final in 2024 since that win. The 2024 Paris Olympics is the last Big Title Djokovic won by defeating Alcaraz after tough straight sets.
Next is the Asian swing, and Djokovic last year played just one tournament- the Shanghai masters. He reached the final but couldn’t cross the final hurdle in the form of Sinner. Last year, Djokovic also skipped the ATP Finals.
