Former World No.1 Martina Navratilova has predicted that Iga Swiatek will win the US Open women’s singles title. This comes after the World No.2 claimed her sixth career Grand Slam at the Wimbledon Championships and then continued with her outstanding form by winning the Cincinnati Open.
However, Swiatek didn’t begin the season the way she expected as she struggled with form on the court. Despite not sustaining any injury, the 24-year-old failed to win a title for over six months. Also, being dubbed the queen of clay, she couldn’t display the same level of performance she had in previous years.
The former World No.1 didn’t defend her titles in Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros, and that led her to drop from No.2 to No.8 in the WTA rankings. After the rough patch, she kicked off her grass-court season at the Bad Homburg Open and shockingly reached the final, which was her first on the surface.
She continued with the momentum at the Wimbledon Championships, reaching the final for the first time in her career and then beating American star Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to win the title. The six-time Grand Slam winner returned to the court at the Canadian Open, reaching the fourth round.
On Monday (August 18), she won her second title in three tournaments, beating Jasmine Paolini to win the Cincinnati Open. During a conversation on Sky Sports, Martina Navratilova, revealed that the old Swiatek is back and will win the US Open title to take her major career title tally to seven:
Iga Swiatek in the women’s for me, even though she hasn’t had the best summer. The Wimbledon win and the way she just conducted herself the whole tournament does mean that the old Iga is back.
Swiatek will have to fight it out against Aryna Sabalenka, who’s the defending champion at the US Open. The duo met recently at the French Open semi-finals, with the latter winning the tie in three sets to advance to the final. However, Sabalenka is yet to win a major title this season and has lost in two Slam finals, first at the Australian Open and then at the French Open.
Marion Bartoli picks Jannik Sinner over Carlos Alcaraz to win the US Open singles title
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are the two favorites to win the US Open men’s singles title. Both players have won the last seven Grand Slams with the former winning four and the latter three. They have also met each other in the last two major tournament finals, winning one each. However, Alcaraz has been the better player in terms of form as he has won six titles this season.

Meanwhile, Sinner is known to play his best tennis on hard courts. Both players met each other at the ATP Masters 1000 final in Cincinnati, but the Italian star retired just 23 minutes into the match due to illness. However, former World No.1 Marion Bartoli has backed Sinner over Alcaraz to win the 2025 US Open singles title. She told Sky:
Sinner won on grass and was one point away from winning the French Open which are both by far the most challenging surfaces for him. He is going to steamroll on hard!
Sinner was meant to compete at the US Open mixed doubles event which kicked off on Tuesday (August 19), but he withdrew from the event due to illness. He will hope to do everything to get back to full fitness before the US Open singles event kicks off on August 24.
The Italian star has already won two major titles this season and will be seeking his third Slam in New York, that would take his total majors to five, the same as his arch-rival Alcaraz.
