Republican VP nominee JD Vance faced criticism from Martina Navratilova for his defense of Donald Trump’s recent social media activity. In an interview on CNN, Vance attempted to downplay the controversy by suggesting that Trump’s memes and jabs at Hillary Clinton and Vice President Kamala Harris were harmless jokes meant to “lift everyone’s spirits.”

He argued that such mockery was simply lighthearted fun, not to be taken seriously. Navratilova, known for her outspoken views on social issues, responded with sharp criticism, questioning the supposed humor in mocking women.

She sarcastically asked whether such derision could truly be considered uplifting, labeling Vance’s defense as “despicable” and describing him as “beyond help.” Her comments reflected her disdain for the normalization of derogatory humor in political discourse.

Sure- mocking women lifts everyone’s spirits, even the women who are being mocked. I mean that’s just so funny and uplifting… what a douche. He is beyond help and as despicable as they get.

Navratilova responded to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that showed a photo of Trump with the bandage. She questioned the seriousness of the injury, which has sparked much discussion. Trump was injured at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when a shooter targeted him. The bullet hit his right ear, but he still managed to raise his hand and shout “fight” before being taken off stage by security.

Donald Trump Jr. defended his father on Fox & Friends, addressing those doubting the injury. At the Republican National Convention, several attendees wore similar bandages to show their support for Trump.
