On Thursday (September 26), a federal grand jury in Manhattan accused New York City mayor Eric Adams of criminal charges as a 57-page indictment revealed details about Adams’ illegal activities. Tennis great Martina Navratilova, though she condemns the Republicans and shows her support for the Democrats, did not hesitate in slamming Adams, who is from the Democratic Party.
Adams is accused of bribery from foreign businesspeople, including $100,000 worth of luxury international travel. The indictment also stated that Adams was involved in a campaign contribution scheme in 2021. The 64-year-old politician was an NYPD police captain and has now become the first sitting mayor of New York City to be accused of committing a crime.
His resignation will see New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams as the new mayor of NYC. Navratilova, like many others on social media, asked Adams to resign from his post.

Martina Navratilova sarcastically replies to Eric Adams’ statement to defend himself
Eric Adams defended himself after being accused of the aforementioned offenses and said all the charges against him were false. Martina Navratilova did not find any words to describe and without paying heed to whatever he was saying in his defense, she sarcastically wrote, “Hmm.”

In another tweet, Navratilova wrote, “Oops” when an X user shared some information about Adams’ crimes. Adams became the second Black mayor of New York City in 2022. He talked about wanting to be “flexible as the city” which never sleeps. His night ramblings however caught attention, as Adams used to visit an Italian restaurant owned by two brothers with past felony convictions.
Then there were reports about him awarding contracts, including to a Turkish company who, as per the indictment, allowed a building that wouldn’t pass fire code to open. At least one Turkish government official also wanted to have an influence over Adams.
