The boxing controversy continues at the Paris Olympics after Martina Navratilova called out Lin Yu-Ting in a gender row for illegal punches in her recent boxing match. Despite facing a lot of scrutiny for her gender, the Chinese Taipei boxer is now in the women’s 57kg final after a semifinal win over Yildiz Kahraman.
Yu-Ting and the Tunisian gave their best to secure a place in the final. However, there was one particular incident in the match that got the already disappointed fans furious at the Yu-Ting.
Yu-Ting was seen trying to land a couple of blows on Kahraman, who was trying to bring the attack to her opponent but ended up getting stuck in the corner. Yu-Ting followed up with a couple of punches (“Rabbit Punch”) on the back of the Tunisian’s head. Though it was deemed an illegal move the referee did not do anything about it.
The video of the incident circulated online and Martina Navratilova was quick to comment on it. She took a dig at the referee for missing an illegal hit during the match.
