Former World No. 1 Martina Navratilova has been quite vocal in her opposition toward Republican politician and former US president Donald Trump. The 77-year-old has been a controversial personality for decades and is currently undergoing a criminal trial.

Named the ‘hush money’ scandal, it is linked to the secret payments made by Trump to adult star Stormy Daniels. The case has been filed to determine whether campaign funds were used toward the payment. As the jury selection has commenced, there has already been drama around the whole thing.

Two jurors have already been replaced. Reports are floating, hinting at intimidation by the Trump camp, which has angered Navratilova. The former World No. 1 took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to criticize the inaction and allow liberty to Trump despite the charges against him.

Either arrest Trump for witness intimidation or tell him he can do that all he wants. Threatening and then doing nothing is bullsh*t!
Tweeted Navratilova.

As per Daniels, the two had an affair before the 2016 presidential elections. She alleges Trump paid her $130,000 to not reveal the details about their affair in 2006. The business tycoon has, however, refused this claim.

But the basis for the criminal trial comes from the 34 charges of falsifying business records. Further, the payments have raised legal and ethical questions about their nature. As federal campaign finance laws require, all payments should be duly disclosed.

If Trump loses the case, he could face more than a decade in prison. The focus of the case remains on finding whether the money paid to Daniels was from the campaign fund, as it was not officially declared before the elections in 2016, thus violating federal law.

Martina Navratilova’s tweet divides opinion on the internet

Navratilova’s dislike for Trump is well known. Her tweet quickly went viral, triggering many reactions from the social media users following the case closely.

Many supported Navratilova’s claim and felt some action should be taken against Trump. Others played it neutral, claiming the court of law can’t jump through the process and needs to go step-by-step.

Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:

Republicans and supporters of Trump, however, united against the 18-time singles Grand Slam title winner. Many told her to stick to tennis, while others simply mocked her, saying no action has been taken against Trump yet.

With the US presidential elections scheduled for November this year, a case of this magnitude could well break or make the Republican campaign. In either case, it will be a landmark case on US soil.
