American tennis legend Martina Navratilova has been pretty vocal about the participation of trans athletes in women’s events. The 67-year-old has openly criticized the concept and has even gone on to call it cheating. Now as a video showed ‘a boy’ running in a girls’ race, Navratilova expressed her dissent yet again.

She sounded furious when she claimed that no one sane would think it was right. The former American tennis ace shared a post on X wherein she quoted a video that showed a trans girl competing in a high school race and beating everyone by a fair distance.

The original post talked about cheating and the unfair advantage the trans girl enjoyed over other participants. Another user shared this post and demanded that boys should be taken out of girls’ sports. Meanwhile, Navratilova shared her point of view and claimed that “nobody in their right mind” would think it was fair.

Martina Navratilova’s frustration is real

This is not the first time Martina Navratilova has voiced her opinion about trans women participating in women’s sports and enjoying an unfair advantage. The 67-year-old has called out this practice multiple times before and with the incidents taking place more frequently than ever, the frustration is building.

Navratilova has questioned this practice and has argued that it is nothing but blatant cheating and reports support her claim. Back in 2021, a study found that trans women maintain an athletic advantage over their cisgender peers even after a year of hormone therapy.

This led to the World Athletics putting a ban on transgender women who went through male puberty and announced that they could no longer compete in women’s events at international competitions. The decision received a lot of backlash with many arguing that there was not much evidence to back the claim that trans women enjoyed an upper hand.

However, despite all the criticism, the notion among the common public is also that trans women must not be allowed to compete in women’s events. Now, it is to be seen if any concrete step will be taken in this regard or if the debate will continue to flourish.
