In a shocking development, Iraq has proposed an amendment to the personal status law, which is known as Law 188. It could lower a girl’s age of consent from 18 to nine.
The world is angry about it, as the law, if passed, will deprive women of several rights such as the right to divorce and child custody. The critics of the law are convinced that it would not only increase child marriage, but the se*ual violance against females will be increased as well.
It would also allow older men to marry children. Habib Khan, the founder of Afghan Peace Watch, shared a screenshot of The Telegraph‘s article on his X handle. When Martina Navratilova came across the news, she condemned those ‘evil’ men of the Shia Muslim parties of Iraq for proposing the law.

Martina Navratilova slams Jim Banks for his comments about deporting immigrants
Martina Navratilova endorsed Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party in the Presidential elections this year. She is not at all a fan of the policies of the Republican Party, and she never missed a chance to slam the Republicans and Donald Trump, who once again won the elections.
Recently, Jim Banks, the United States Senator-elect from Indiana, talked at length about Trump’s plans to deport undocumented immigrants. Banks said it’s important for America to deport the ‘violent criminals’ to ‘reduce’ the crime in the country.
When the video of the interview started to do the rounds on social media, Navratilova censured him for such remarks.
