Martina Navratilova was furious about popular writer Emma Woolf and her recent appearance on Great Britain’s Newsroom. During their coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the British news channel focused on the recent controversy, with Woolf making impactful live comments.
One of the most talked about controversial decisions at the Olympics this year is about the participation of a Dutch athlete Steven van de Velde, a convinced child rap*st, who was selected to represent his nation at the Summer Games. Back in 2016, the Dutchman was convicted of sexual assault on a 12-year-old child and was imprisoned for over four years.
Having been released, he continued his career as a professional volleyball player and is now competing in the French capital. This has led to a lot of conversation about his involvement in the competition, with many against his inclusion.
However, famous writer Emma Woolf boldly defended Velde and instead blamed the 12-year-old child. On air, she was adamant about proving the child guilty. Her words did not sit well with Navratilova, who questioned Woolf and her views.
Emma Wolf- seriously? Representing your country is an honor, not a right. This man dishonors his country and dishonors the whole ideal of being someone for kids to look up to - and Emma is trying to blame the 12year old girl for the rape. Absolutely deplorable.Martina Navratilova said on X

Woolf got trolled online for her views. Nevertheless, the Olympics has decided to allow Van de Velde to compete without any issues.
Martina Navratilova continued to lash out at Woolf for her absurd statements on live television
Former tennis player Martina Navratilova is often online making her thoughts heard through her social media posts. She is mainly involved in conversations about US politics and women’s rights. She recently lashed out at popular writer Emma Woolf for defending Steven Van de Velde.
Woolf blamed the 12-year-old child who was sexually assaulted by the Dutchman. She also kept on diminishing the sexual assault as a mere mistake. Navratilova, who had already commented on Woolf’s views, could not hold back from giving another piece of her mind.

Many people were not overly impressed with Woolf, who blatantly defended the accused despite other reporters on the show continuously giving more proof against the Dutch athlete.
