Martina Navratilova has slammed the International Olympics Committee (again) for defending the rights of two trans-athletes competing in women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics. The athletes were disqualified from the Women’s World Championship last year after failing the gender eligibility test.

Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting and Algeria’s Imane Khelif are two athletes who have been in the controversy. Both are featuring in their second Olympics and Yu-ting is a two-time World champion. The athletes were due to receive a medal at the 2023 World Championship in New Delhi but were disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA).

IBA’s dispute with the IOC has allowed Yu-ting and Khelif to qualify for the Paris Olympics by winning their continent tournaments. With concerns raised about the athlete’s eligibility at the Olympics growing, the IOC revealed that they are eligible to compete in Women’s Boxing because they carry a female passport.

Everyone competing in the women’s category is complying with the competition eligibility rules. They are women in their passports and it’s stated that this is the case, that they are female. They are eligible by the rules of the federation which was set in 2016, and which worked for Tokyo too.
IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said
Ridiculous. They might have the right (female) passports but they do not have the female bodies!!! What will it take for @IOC to take a position that actually protects women’s sports? These rules and regulations should come from the top and different t sporting bodies will adopt them. Cannot leave it to different sports and federations to make the rules.

Martina Navratilova took a dig at the IOC on social media, stating that they may have female passports but do not have female bodies.

Top-seed Yu-ting is competing in the 57-kilogram class while Khelif the 66-kilogram welterweight event. Khelif will fight Italy’s Angela Carini on Thursday (August 1).

An X user shared an extract from a Newsweek article criticizing the songwriter for being a bad role model because, at 34, she is unmarried and childless, and her lifestyle is idolized by young girls. Navratilova slammed both the author and the news outlet for publishing it.

A massive pile of misogynistic bull (three poop emojis). This guy should be ashamed of himself and I can’t believe he writes for Newsweek…and they printed it. I mean…

Navratilova has consistently maintained her feminist stance, advocating for the rights and equality of women in sports. However, she has also voiced her opposition to trans men competing in women’s sports, arguing that it can create an uneven playing field.
