Martina Navratilova is a fierce supporter of women’s empowerment. So a comment made by Piers Morgan did not sit well with her.

The BBC recently released the cover for the Sports Personality of the Year, which featured three women: Gabby Logan, Alex Scott, and Clare Balding. When Morgan came across the BBC’s post on X, he questioned what would have happened had three male sportsmen featured on the cover.

Can just imagine the furore if they had promoted this with a photo of three male presenters…

Piers Morgan wrote on X

Navratilova told him that times have changed. She criticized the British broadcaster, pointing out how men used to dominate on the covers in the past.

In the past, it’s been three men most of the time, Piers. Times have changed, thank goodness for that.

Navratilova also doesn’t want trans people’s involvement in women’s sports. Even though she is a supporter of the Democrats, she doesn’t follow them when they advocate for trans people’s inclusion in female sports.

It’s been men for decades in so many ways- maybe not SPOTY specifically but everywhere else and nobody batted an eye…

Patrick Mouratoglou on Novak Djokovic’s interview with Piers Morgan

Novak Djokovic received an apology from Piers Morgan over the comments he made during the Serb’s vaccination saga at the Australian Open back in 2022. Morgan interviewed Djokovic during which, among other things, the former asked the 24-time Grand Slam champion about whether he wants to see his son Stefan become a tennis player.

Djokovic said if Stefan followed his footsteps, he would continue to be “his father” only and not at all “his coach”. Serena Williams‘ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, weighed in on Djokovic’s comment.

Everything Novak said makes perfect sense. If I had to give advice to his son, I would never tell him to try to become a professional tennis player. Not because he’s not talented, but because the mountain he must climb is unreal. Ronaldo’s son faces the same problem. When your father is the best in history, the best soccer player in history, you can only fall short. Why choose a path where comparison will follow you every single day?

Djokovic was also asked whether he would let his son win if he became a tennis player. To this, the 38-year-old joked, “I would kick his a**”.

There are a million ways to succeed in life, not just tennis, and I shouldn’t say that as a tennis coach, but it’s true. Now, if Novak’s son chooses this journey, then Novak’s approach is exactly right: Support him 100%. Believe in him. Be behind him. But don’t coach him. Of course, there are exceptions, but precisely there are exceptions.

Patrick Mouratoglou added

This year, Djokovic won just two ATP 250 titles, the Geneva Open and the Hellenic Championship. After his win in Athens, he skipped the ATP Finals due to a shoulder injury. The Serb also reached the final of the Miami Open but couldn’t beat Jakub Mensik. In Grand Slam events, he played every semifinal.
