American tennis legend Martina Navratilova did not hold back when criticizing Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump for his recent remarks about abortion. After Trump spoke about women not worrying about abortion if he returned to power, the former tennis ace slammed him and called him a narcissist.
At a rally in North Carolina, Trump touched upon a range of topics including abortion rights for women. The former American President said that if he is reelected, women will not have to worry about abortion as the states will take care of it.
Women will be happy, healthy, confident, and free. You will no longer be thinking about abortion because it is now where it always had to be, with the states.Donald Trump said at his rally in North Carolina.
This comment from Trump attracted a lot of criticism and Navratilova led the way by calling out the Republican. The 67-year-old, who has always been a critic of Trump and his party, claimed that he was getting worse with every passing day.
What a toxic narcissist- and getting worseMartina Navratilova said on X.
Notably, Trump has been against women’s right to abortion and has been flagging the issue during his election campaigns. However, Democrats, the party Martina Navratilova endorses, supports women’s right to abortion.
What do American citizens say about the right to abortion which Donald Trump wants to end?
Ever since the US Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to abortion, there has been a spike in the number of people supporting the cause. While around 50% of US citizens thought abortion should be legal, currently, 63% of Americans support the right to abortion (according to Pew Research).
Americans are largely opposed to the strict bans that have taken effect in Republican-controlled states since the high court’s ruling two years ago. Notably, full bans, with limited exceptions, have gone into effect in 14 GOP-led states while three other states prohibit abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy before women often realize they’re pregnant.
Donald Trump plans to make it nationwide if he is reelected as the President of the United States following the November elections. He is up against Kamala Harris, who openly supports the right to abortion, like 63% of the Americans.
