Martina Navratilova has always been a vocal opposition to transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. She has singled out several people for supporting such notions, and this time around, she slammed American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson for his controversial take on the issue in a show with British journalist Piers Morgan.

Tyson recently made an appearance on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored show where they discussed the future of transgender athletes in sports. At one stage of the discussion, he suggested that the best way to handle controversial issues is by categorizing athletes based on hormone levels rather than sex.

Morgan dismissed the suggestion, claiming that it was “simply ridiculous“. However, Tyson defended his statement by saying that sports like wrestling use weight to class athletes and ensure the contest is fair. Morgan then countered saying that if a female boxer was put in the ring against Floyd Mayweather because of weight classes, she would be annihilated by Mayweather.

The video of this interaction was posted online and Martina Navratilova reacted to it. The 18-time Grand Slam champion denounced Tyson for proposing the ‘stupidest’ solution she has ever heard on the issue.

Neil proving once again he really should not be talking about solving trans issue in sports. His “ hormone class” division is the stupidest idea I have heard yet.

This is not the first time Navratilova has slammed Tyson’s suggestions about transgender inclusion in women’s sports. Last year, the former World No. 1 said that the American astrophysicist lacked any real understanding of the complexity involved in the issue and could not address them.

Martina Navratilova has also been a critic of the US President-elect Donald Trump even before he won the general election this year. Recently, Trump stated that he would pardon those involved in the January 6 attack at the US Capitol in 2021 once he takes charge.

Trump also added that they were wrongly prosecuted by the House Select Committee. He then threatened that he would throw members of the House Select Committee into jail when he assumed office. Navratilova reacted to the threat by saying that Trump spoke like a dictator.

Only dictators will say this.
