Former Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood has finally found a new home – Getafe CF. The 22-year-old was at the heart of controversy and conflict as he was arrested on counts of attempted assault and rape.
The chaos that ensued saw him be the subject of heavy criticism and mass protests at Old Trafford. With pressure mounting on United’s management, the Red Devils made the decision to ‘ship him off’ to Spain.
Greenwood’s start at Getafe was not easy. From rival fans chanting for him to go back to opposition players allegedly calling him a r*pist, the forward did not have it easy at the start. However, 33 games, 8 goals and 6 assists later, Getafe fans have fallen in love with the player. As their La Liga season came to a close against Mallorca, fans called for Greenwood to stay.
‘Mason Greenwood stay‘ chanted the home crowd as the player will most likely set to return to Old Trafford next season. Greenwood hasn’t played for Man United since January 2022 following his arrest. A year later, all charges against the player were dropped on the grounds of lack of evidence.
The club conducted a lengthy internal inquiry and were on the verge of reinstating him, when severe backlash and criticism forced the management to reverse their decision.
