‘Masvidal is the BMF champion…Colby is a BMF’ – Chael Sonnen wants Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal to fight for the BMF Title

Former UFC veteran Chael Sonnen wants welterweights Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal to fight for the BMF title. Colby and Masvidal have been in the news of late, as the former recently accused ‘The East Coast Gangster’ of constantly ducking him. Jorge Masvidal is the holder of the symbolic UFC BMF belt, after he beat Nate Diaz at UFC 244.
Speaking of this in his own YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen suggested that it would make great sense if Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal fight for the BMF title, as a fight between the pair seems imminent.

“Masvidal has never lost it (the BMF belt). Masvidal is the BMF champion… Masvidal needs to be respected, for Masvidal is the champion, and it’s just as important to me that, that belt goes back up,” said Sonnen. [via Sportskeeda]
Referencing Ric Flair from WWE, Chael Sonnen said,“I don’t care if I have to defer back to professional wrestling which instantly turns everybody off, but in all fairness, there’s a reason that we did tune into (watch professional wrestling) as kids, and that reason was that belt. Ric Flair many times as the heavyweight champion lost, but it was a non-title match… so when Masvidal fought Usman and got beat, it was a non-title match. It wasn’t for the title. He concluded saying, “Next time Masvidal fights, if it’s not for a greater prize in case of Usman being the undisputed championship, then the title is on the line in my opinion… and by the way, Colby is a BMF. The BMF title is around BMF, but there’s some other guys that wanna take it.” [via Sportskeeda]
Colby Covington is coming off a devastating victory over Tyron Woodley. The number 1 ranked welterweight contender, gave Kamaru Usman a tough time at UFC 245, as the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ somehow saw off Colby, only in the final round, even as ‘The Chaos’ wasn’t willing to give up with a broken jaw.
Jorge Masvidal, on the other hand, last fought Kamaru Usman, for the welterweight title, taking the fight on ultra-short notice; but Usman saw Masvidal off with ease, winning via. unanimous decision. Since, Jorge Masvidal is one ‘tough’ man to knock down, his equally tough opponent Colby will have to dig deep, if the pair ever face-off.
