Rashee Rice is set to return for the Kansas City Chiefs after serving a six-game suspension. Rice will make his 2025 debut against divisional rivals the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Chiefs find themselves in third place in the AFC West with a 3-3 record after their latest win over the Detroit Lions. In Rice’s absence, quarterback Patrick Mahomes had to split his passes among Travis Kelce, Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, and Tyquan Thornton.

Kelce leads the Chiefs receiver room with 28 receptions for 321 yards and 2 touchdowns, followed by Brown with 30 for 302 yards and 3 touchdowns. Rice’s addition will add spark to the Chiefs’ offense, which has lacked a true killer.

Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was part of the group along with GM Brett Veach and ex-AGM Mike Borgonzi (currently GM in Tennessee), who discovered Rice in 2023. They willingly traded up with the Buffalo Bills to select Rice.

Since then, the SMU graduate has been the main marksman for Mahomes when he has played.

I half get goosebumps just thinking about when he goes out there and what he does to this offense. There is an excitement that you have — remember now he hasn’t played for a little while, so there is a little bit of some realness to it too. But that’s the beauty of what [G.M.] Brett Veach and [head] coach [Andy] Reid have done with the depth that we have in this offense.

The NFL suspended Rice for six games as punishment for a road rage case on the outskirts of Dallas in 2024. Rice and a few of his friends totaled the Chiefs’ wideout’s Lamborghini on a Dallas highway.

After committing the accident, the group fled the scene and remained on the run from the police before turning themselves in. In July of 2025, Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felonies: one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and one count of racing on a highway causing bodily injury.

According to media reports, Rice agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by two crash victims, agreeing to pay $1 million plus their legal expenses.

Travis Kelce is excited for Rashee Rice’s return

Rice may be ten years younger than Kelce, but the two teammates bonded over their love for football and Taylor Swift‘s music. Kelce has been a constant believer in Rice, even when he was fighting legal battles.

Speaking on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, the three time Super Bowl winner revealed that he is looking forward to seeing No. 4 in action against the Raiders.

I’m just happy to get my guy back out there. He can put this [expletive] in the [expletive] past. Rashee [Rice] is such a good dude. When all this happened, I gave him a shout and let him know, ‘Man, listen, we know who you are as a person. Don’t let the world drag you through and make you feel like you’re any less of that.’

Since entering the league, Rice has appeared in 20 games, racking up 103 catches for 1226 yards and 9 touchdowns. Before suffering a season-ending knee injury last year, Rice had multiple 100-yard games in three appearances and 2 touchdowns.
