When in doubt, say ‘Chama’ and roll out! Max Holloway is undeterred by his third-round knockout loss to Ilia Topuria from UFC 308. Just like Alex Pereira, “Blessed” fighter Holloway plans on rebounding with an epic run. Interestingly, ‘Poatan’ overcame a knockout loss at UFC 287 to destroy the light heavyweight division. Holloway certainly takes inspiration from that run.
Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) took the loss in stride and with class. The Hawaiian star has announced that he’s moving up to lightweight for good – looking to start a new life in the division. Some fighters suffer when they change divisions. However, Holloway wants to mimic what Poatan did at light heavyweight to 155 pounds.

The Topuria loss may have messed up the momentum from the Justin Gaethje time-defying KO. But Max Holloway is planning a tactile move and taking cues from Alex Pereira for it. After the loss to Israel Adesanya, Pereira moved up and defeated ex-champ Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291 to become the #1 contender. He won the vacant title with a knockout of Jiri Prochazka and has since defended it thrice.

Just like Alex Pereira from 185 to 205, Holloway proved how better he is when cutting right and hydrating at around 155. Before his loss to Ilia Topuria, Holloway landed in the No. 5 spot in the UFC’s lightweight listings with a buzzer-beater round 5 KO. He even won the “BMF” strap at the 155-pound mark. His move-up is also getting a Teleshot release, by the way.

Max Holloway is used to cameras capturing his exploits inside the octagon. But now they’ll follow him outside the UFC ring in an upcoming documentary. Billed as “the definitive documentary” on his life, Dream Bay Entertainment and Hamblin Imagery have teamed up to create an as-yet-untitled film about the iconic UFC featherweight.
Let’s Be Frank director Peter Hamblin will direct and executive produce. Dream Bay founder Thomas Drachkovitch is on board as an exec producer. Early buzz is good around the “Blessed” montage. The fighter is also moving permanently to lightweight and some prime changes after the UFC 308 pay-per-view (PPV) top bill.
Whatever happens will be captured in the movie, which was just announced by Deadline. Hamblin’s surfing documentaries are quite unique, both stylistically and philosophically. Max Holloway, with mini-me (Min Holloway) son Rush, along with his wife and 83rd seed by World Surf League Alessa Quizon, is already the most-camera-friendly bunch out there.
Quizon and Holloway often go viral for their stylistic surfing adventures. They also document Max’s time out and lapse to other countries off camp. The duo is also the brand face for their Darc Sports Wolves Club (@darcsports). The Hawaiian is also the brand face for Sanabul Sports (@sanabul) fight apparel. Their life and sports adventures go hard and go fast. All in all, this documentary could be one for ages.
