Max Holloway has joined the conversation of bonuses for his upcoming fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. Holloway revealed a desire to renegotiate his contract with Dana White and the UFC. This came after the BMF title fight was touted as the ‘People’s Main Event.’
During the UFC 300 media scrum, Max Holloway revealed that he wants six-figure performance bonuses. The former champion said he recognizes the significance of this event and will join Justin Gaethje in pitching at the fighters’ meeting ahead of the event.
Oh yeah, brother. When we do the fighter meeting - we always have fighter meetings- I'm going to throw it out there. I'm gonna say $500k, so we can start going, 'Okay, $400k. Then $300k. Okay final offer, $150k.' 'Cause it's UFC 300. It's huge. The two guys that's pushing the fight, that's asking for it. Why not?Max Holloway via UFC 300 media day
UFC 300 is headlined by the matchup between Jamahal Hill and Alex Pereira for the light heavyweight title. Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje’s fight for the BMF title is neither the main event nor the co-main event. However, Holloway reportedly found that their title match is a major part of the promotional drive for the mega event. As such, the former featherweight champion wants a bigger cut for his performance in the octagon.
BMF title holder Justin Gaethje had previously expressed the idea of pushing for a $300,000 bonus. Holloway has now joined his opponent to open negotiations with UFC CEO Dana White to settle on a mutually agreeable sum. In the end, Dana White accepted the $300K bonus, which would surely fire up the Hawaiin fighter ahead of UFC 300.
Dana White calls Max Holloway the greatest featherweight of all time
UFC CEO Dana White is excited for the upcoming matchup between Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje. Holloway is a former featherweight champion, and ever since his entry in 2012, he has only lost to five fighters in the division. Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje currently holds the BMF title and is the second BMF champion after Jorge Masvidal to hold the title.
No wonder Dana White had good things to say about both of his fighters. The UFC CEO recently sat down for an interview on ESPN’s First Take from his “War Room” in Las Vegas. White said Holloway has always remained a big fan favorite and called him probably the greatest featherweight of all time. On the other hand, the UFC CEO described Gaethje as “a human highlight reel.”
He went on to describe how the inception of the BMF title matchup happened. Dana White revealed that his idea of a fight between Holloway and Gaethje was met with a positive response from the UFC officials. Moreover, the fans love it and now the two fighters will throw down in the octagon with the BMF title on the line.
