Max Verstappen has been in red hot form in the 2022 F1 season and has already won 5 races, but as per F1 analyst Lawrence Barretto, the Dutchman is still behind in single-lap pace as compared to the Maranello-based Ferrari team.

Lawrence believes that there is room for improvement at Red Bull after having a well-detailed look at the single-lap pace of the top three teams in the Constructors Championship. Moreover, the analyst is of the opinion that Red Bull is hampering their own progress by not being able to take pole during Qualifying.

In the first 8 races of the current season, Ferrari has had the upper hand over Red Bull on most occasions when it comes to taking pole for the Grand Prix and this in Barretto’s opinion is something where the Red Bull can look to improve.

Charles Leclerc has been in terrific form this season for Ferrari and has acted as the main thorn for Red Bull when it comes to taking pole position. The Monegasque has not allowed the lights of Perez and Verstappen to get anywhere near him in qualifying and because of this Verstappen and Co. haven’t been able to start Grand Prix from the top spot.

Barretto believes if Red Bull can get on top of their issues, then it would become way easier for the energy drink team to secure race wins.

While talking about Verstappen’s troubles against Leclerc, Barretto said, “Verstappen isn’t yet comfortable with the RB18, particularly in qualifying trim.”

“But he’s made up for it on Sunday afternoon, capitalizing on the team’s superior race pace, tire management, and straight-line speed to wrestle four wins in five. Imagine what he’ll be like once he gets on top of his one-lap struggle.

Barretto has blatantly indicated that Max Verstappen is the man to beat this season and feels that the Dutchman has been prolific when it comes to delivering during Grand Prix but just wishes that Red Bull can give him a car that is strong enough to deliver during Qualifying sessions.
