‘McGregor had already beaten his rival before and I think that made him underestimate him’ – Manny Pacquiao on Conor McGregor’s loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257
Conor McGregor was ‘finished’ for the first time in his illustrious MMA career by a splendid Dustin Poirier at UFC 257. The Irishman succumbed to a barrage of strikes from the ‘Diamond’ in only the second round; in their rematch after almost 7 long years. Conor’s KO loss came as a surprise to a lot of the fight fans, however there were people in the combat sports community who felt that Conor was taking Dustin too lightly.
Elsewhere, since mid 2020, there have been talks of a Conor McGregor vs boxing great Manny Pacquiao, boxing bout. Speaking about Conor’s loss to ABS-CBN News, Manny Pacquiao felt that Conor McGregor underestimated Dustin Poirier just because he had already beaten him, back in 2014. But he also added that, ‘losing is just a part of the game’.
‘Losing is part of the game…In sport there are winners and losers‘
Manny Pacquiao was quoted as saying, “Losing is part of the game. In sport there are winners and losers, that’s all. It is not about defeat, but about how you accept defeat in your life: how you get over that difficult time in your life. McGregor had already beaten his rival before and I think that made him underestimate him.”
Conor McGregor has revealed that he would come back stronger; maybe even a possible rematch against Dustin Poirier might be on the cards. But, the Pacquiao fight, which seemed to be in advanced talks, has taken a hit since Conor lost to Dustin. Right now, it seems like Conor will be concentrating on getting himself back on track in the UFC.
