Mercedes Mone signed with AEW earlier this year. So far, it has been a success for both sides, to say the least. The AEW TBS Champion has proven to be a massive draw for the Tony Khan-led promotion, gaining on-screen success as well. Ahead of Forbidden Door, the CEO spoke with TMZ Sports and opined on her run in AEW.

The former WWE star confirmed that she has ‘creative control’ in terms of her on-screen character. Moreover, Mone revealed she was working alongside Khan, heaping praise on their partnership. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as many top stars in the promotion have similar control over their booking. Previously, CM Punk disclosed that he had signed two deals. One of them was a wrestler, while the other was a ‘consultant’ to the owner.

However, whether that’s the case for The Mandalorian star is yet to be known. The 32-year-old star debuted in AEW in her hometown of Boston at Big Business. Although fans had to wait for her to compete in the ring for months, she has finally bolstered the company’s women’s division. Speaking of Forbidden Door, the CEO will square off against Stephanie Vaquer in a match for both the TBS title and Strong Women’s Championship.

I got this, I think just every single week you gotta watch, yes I have creative control, but I work with Tony Khan very closely so it’s a great combo.

Therefore, Mercedes Mone will have the opportunity to become a double champion on the upcoming PPV. Needless to say, fans are eagerly anticipating the bout and whether or not she walks out with both titles or not.

Mercedes Mone refuses to reveal details behind her WWE exit

Prior to arriving in NJPW and AEW, Mercedes Mone, then known as Sasha Banks, was one of the biggest female stars in WWE. However, things changed when she and Naomi walked out of WWE in May 2022. With reports citing creative differences as the major cause of the fallout, the CEO hasn’t confirmed the reason herself.

In a recent interview with WFAN, Mone refused to divulge details behind the controversial exit. Instead, she teased that she would eventually reveal everything in her autobiography in ten years. Interestingly, the AEW TBS Champion was in talks to return to the Stamford-based promotion. However, negotiations fell apart by late December, as she ended up signing with Tony Khan‘s promotion.

Mone also alluded to clashing with higher-ups in WWE while trying to get time off to film for The Mandalorian. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old wrestler couldn’t be more happy right now as she continues to make waves in AEW.
