“You have no idea,” Mercedes Mone alludes to creative differences in WWE under Vince McMahon while addressing the freedom she’s getting in AEW

Just five months into her journey with AEW, Mercedes Mone is loving it there. She's being treated like she hasn't been before.

Keeping the tribalism aside, Mercedes Mone does seem to be having the time of her life in AEW. This weekend in London, she’ll put the TBS title on the line against Britt Baker at All In. But before that, she has addressed the differences between working in her former workplace, i.e., WWE, and where she’s at right now.

In an interview with The Independent, Mone stated that the difference is day and night. She affirmed that those working in WWE have no idea about their weekly creative plans in advance. For the unversed, this was a recurring theme under Vince McMahon‘s regime. The former WWE Chairman used to notoriously tear apart the scripts minutes before the shows went on-air. As a result, the superstars didn’t even know what they were supposed to be doing any given day.

However, there’s no such thing in AEW, as per Mercedes Mone. She stressed that there are people who’re always up for any of her ideas. The 32-year-old lauded president Tony Khan and her personal writer-cum-friend Jennifer Pepperman for sitting with her to iron out the kind of stories they envisage telling to their audience. The CEO said she’s respected in AEW.

In WWE you have no idea what you’ll be doing week to week, but here [in AEW] I have space to be heard. Along with Tony Khan and with my friend and personal writer Jennifer Pepperman, there’s time to sit down and really plan out the kinds of stories we want to tell.

Moreover, Mone insinuated that she’s seen in a way she hasn’t been before. As one could tell, The Boss still holds gripe for the way things panned out when she was with WWE. A series of goof-ups from the top brass led to her unceremonious exit from the company in mid-2022. Her partner-in-crime, Naomi, who also walked out with Mercedes, returned to WWE earlier this year. But the former Sasha Banks decided not to head back, and the rest is history.

Did Mercedes Mone consider returning to WWE last year?

As long as Mercedes Mone will bleed wrestling, she’ll always be in the hunt for a WWE return down the line. In fact, she recently stated she was planning to do so at WrestleMania 39. It was before Tony Khan invited her to visit AEW All In’s debut at the Wembley Stadium.

What could’ve changed her mind from going back to WWE was an unexpected coup to authority for Vince McMahon. At that juncture, McMahon was hailed as the executive chairman of the TKO Group Holdings. But now that Vince is truly swept out of the helm, more names are willing to sign with WWE.

And who knows if Mone will be any different once she makes up her mind to go back? With Triple H leading the creative reins, it’s a real possibility. But for now, the Mandalorian actress is at solace with the tag of allegedly being the highest-paid women’s wrestler ever.
