Mercedes would be ‘deluded’ to replace Lewis Hamilton and expect same success: Eddie Jordan

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes contract negotiations produce a new theory and rumor every second day. But one can’t deny the supremacy Mercedes have achieved, courtesy of Lewis Hamilton. Having won his 7th World Championship, Hamilton has shown the world that age is just a number. Running in a league of his own, the compact 2020 season, was made to look like it was tailor-stitched for the British Driver.
Eddie Jordan becomes the latest to opinionated on this and suggests Mercedes cannot imagine the same F1 success without Lewis Hamilton driving for them. With the closure of the 2020 season, there was a feeling of consensus that 2021 could be the one where Hamilton lifts his eighth title. In an illustrious career that has given him seven titles, this one trophy could see him become champion of all champions.

Former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan, though, believes that both parties would come to a ‘good solution.’
Jordan stated as per BBC, “Lewis Hamilton is the jewel in the crown. He’s the one every TV station wants to interview.”
“Mercedes are probably saying a lot of this is to do with the car and we’ve given him an outstanding chance to be world champion because he has the best car. That’s not in dispute.”
The rumor mill has also suggested that George Russell could replace Hamilton in the hot seat for 2021. However, Jordan thinks that Mercedes would be ‘deluded’ if they expect any replacement to replicate the same success as Hamilton.
He continued, “However, if they think they can replace Lewis Hamilton with another driver. Having the same element of success then I think they are deluded.
“And one thing’s for sure Mercedes and (team boss) Toto Wolf will not be easily deluded. He’s a very smart guy. He knows exactly the value of Lewis Hamilton. I think they will sit down and come to a good solution because the world of F1 needs Lewis Hamilton in it.” concluded Jordan.
