- Miami Open 2026 will take place from March 17 to March 29, featuring top players like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
- Alcaraz is the top seed, while Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina are favorites on the women's side.
- The tournament will conclude the hard court season before players transition to clay.
With the Indian Wells Open coming to an end on Sunday (March 15), the full focus will turn to the Miami Open in South Florida. The WTA 1000 tournament and ATP Masters 1000 event will take center stage from Tuesday (March 17) and run through to next Sunday (March 29) with top players aiming to win their first big title of the season.
The event is the second Masters 1000 tournament in a row, just after the Indian Wells Open. The best players are set to compete for the title, including Carlos Alcaraz, Jakub Mensik, and Jannik Sinner. The tournament will bring an end to the Sunshine Doubles and the hard court action for the time being as tennis will switch to clay.
Alcaraz is the top seed in the tournament for the men’s circuit. Sinner, who defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Indian Wells, returns to the tournament for the first time since 2024. He didn’t take part in last year’s edition due to his infamous doping suspension. Meanwhile, Alcaraz has a lot of points to claim as he crashed early in Miami after losing to David Goffin.
Alcaraz won the Miami Open in 2022, but has since failed to reach the final of the event. Only tennis legend Andre Agassi can boast as many titles from the Miami Open as Novak Djokovic. Djokovic has won six Miami Open titles in his career, but his last came all the way back in 2016. He has only competed in three Miami touraments since then.
He will not feature in the tournament this year despite finishing as runner-up last year. He announced last week that he will be forfeiting the 650 ranking points at the tournament after reaching the round of 16 of the Indian Wells Open for the first time in more than two years. That means he will drop out of the top 5 when the tournament concludes.
On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will go into the tournament as favorites. Both players reached the final of the Indian Wells Open, with Sabalenka earning her revenge in a nervy three-set clash. It was Sabalenka’s first Indian Wells title after finishing as runners-up in 2023 and 2025.
However, Rybakina is now the new World No.2 after overtaking Iga Swiatek. The Kazakhstan star has moved from outside the Top 10 to the top 2 in just five months. She’s the most in-form player after Sabalenka in the women’s circuit, but has struggled to play her best in Miami. Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova will be counting on luck and form to claim the title in front of home fans.

Jakub Mensik returns to Miami as the defending champion. He defeated Novak Djokovic last year in straight sets. This year, he has recorded some incredible victories, including one against Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals of the Doha Open last month.
Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev will enter the Miami Open with the hope of producing the kind of performance they had at the Indian Wells. Both players reached the semi-finals of the tournament before falling to Sinner. Zverev lost to Sinner in the semi-finals, while Medvedev lost to the Italian star in the championship match.
The likes of Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, and Felix Auger-Aliassime will look forward to correcting their mistakes after suffering a shocking early exit at the Indian Wells. On the women’s side, Elina Svitolina and Linda Noskova will be banking on using the Indian Wells experience in Miami, while Jessica Pegula will aim to win her second WTA 1000 title at the tournament, having reached the final last year.
