Michael Berrer was part of the top 50 rankings around 10 years ago. He reached his career-best ranking of 42. Throughout the session, he asserted the importance of mental strength on a tennis court.
“Because all top 100 players have top technology. The difference lies in the mental,”
According to Berrer, in the current neck to neck competition, when everyone excels the skills of hitting the tennis ball, the slight difference between a good player and a champion is that of mental strength.
Novak is mentally the strongest: Berrer
Berrer says, “Rafael Nadal is rather tense, while Roger Federer is relaxed and fun. Novak Djokovic is very serious.” The Serbian has to participate in the upcoming US Open. While the Spaniard and the Swiss Master will skip the grand slam.
Berrer played Djokovic at the Wimbledon in 2008, and at the China Open in 2012. On both the occasions, the Serb got the better of Berrer.
Berrer says Djokovic is a mental ideal. Even though, Djokovic has his share of emotions on court, he keeps them at bay and does not let them interfere with his game.
Roger Federer has worked enough on his mental strength: Berrer
Michael Berrer went on to talk about Roger Federer’s exemplary skills accompanied by mental strength. The 39-year-old Roger has kept his determination and went ahead to win 20 grand slam titles. Berrer said,
“So I expect a 16-year-old, 17-year-old player to be having a really big vision like Roger Federer who used to be as a 15-year-old. It was clear to him (Federer) that he wanted to be the top 10 and then the No. 1.”
Roger Federer is a prodigy. His skills are natural yet he has only attained the stature for himself with hard-work.
Michael Berrer is working in the field of mental training which is an emerging aspect of the game. Over the years, even young players competing nationally have hired mental trainers for better results.
