The second round of the 2025 PGA Championship saw several top golfers fail to make the cut and head home empty-handed. One name who failed to make it through to the weekend was Michael Block. After he failed to make the cut, Block provided a bizarre reason for his performance, leading to furious reactions from fans online.

Block, a club professional, rose to fame in 2023 with a Cinderella-esque run during the 2023 PGA Championship. The golfer went on to make the cut and finished T15 at the Oak Hill Country Club.

This week, he once again took part in the second major championship of the year. However, after a poor performance in both rounds, he ended up missing the cut with scores 15-over par while shooting 11-over par in the second round.

Following his exit from the event, the 48-year-old went on to make a bizarre comment. The American international boldly explained to GOLF.com that his poor performance was due to a smaller crowd size at the Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina.

I love crowds. That’s kind of the funny part is I wish there was a huge crowd on every hole because that’s when I hit my shots. I really do. I always do. It’s the weirdest thing. When there’s no one around is when I hit my worst shots.

Social media users thrash Michael Block for giving crowd size as reason for poor performance

Ever since the 2023 PGA Championship, fans have been left divided over Michael Block. While some have supported and backed him, some have taken a shot at him for his various comments.

This week, he made a huge remark about his performances. The reason of having a smaller crowd affecting his result has not sit well with the fans on social media.

Several users on X bashed him while furiously reacting to it. One user wrote, “What a douche” while slamming Block for providing a bizarre reason for his failure this year at the PGA Championship.

Block’s next PGA Tour outing will be a week later. He will head to Colonial next week to participate in the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge through Sponsors’ Exemption. Chances are that event will have a small crowd size too, so Block would have to perform better than this week to make it through the weekend.

PGA Tour pro takes ‘wild’ shot at Michael Block’s bizarre’ reason for poor performances at PGA Championship

Michael Block once again stole the headlines at the PGA Championship. This time, the reason was different though. The club professional golfer claimed that small crowd size was a reason for his poor performance. A PGA Tour professional would later take a ‘wild’ shot at him.

Block, who started the second round 4-over par, went on to make 5 bogeys and 4 double bogeys on Friday. This saw him finish the day with an 11-over par score for the round and carded a 15-over 157 score for the tournament.

After giving a bizarre reason for his failure, tour professional Byeong Hun An mocked him on X. He labeled this reason as a ‘wild’ take from him and trolled him.

Wild take…definitely somewhere up there with flat earth’ers

Other notable names who missed the cut this year at the PGA Championship included Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas, Cameron Smith, and Dustin Johnson. Meanwhile, defending champion Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy just made the cut while finishing at the 1-over cut line.
